I have heard (from another timeshare sales operation) that Sunterra Resorts are having financial problems and there may be owner problems on the horizon. Has anyone heard of any issues?

Sunterra filed for Bankruptcy earlier this year. As for the individual resorts, their daily operations remain relatvely untouched by it. Now as for "owner problems" as a result of Sunterra's financial problems, that's a new one on me. The only potential problems (that I can see), are for those owners who converted their "fixed" weeks into "Club Sunterra".. a points based system. If Sunterra ends up selling off any or all of it's resorts, what will happen to "The Club Members" and their "Points"? There has been much speculation about this very issue, but noone can really say for sure what will happen in the end. Kevin J.

Try www.thetimesharebeat.com for Sunterra info. It's a gossipy sorta site.

As a Club Sunterra owner of points (SunOptions), I can tell you that the worst that could happen to me is that I revert back to my fixed weeks at my resort which I have only given the Club the right to use in exchange for my points. So far, the Club is continuing but I do think there are some availability problems at some resorts that the Club is not telling it's members about... As for owner problems, I've heard of some who aren't getting all/any of the bennies they were promised for purchase, and there are tose who have complained to the right office and gotten satisfaction. To date, I have always received satisfaction from Sunterra on any questions I have had.
