I agree with Judy. Please leave the thread until I have time to follow the links. I'd hate to see all that hard work go to waste. Thanks, Marty, for taking your time to do this. I'm sure all who are interested in eBay sales will benefit. Those who aren't interested can just move on to a thread more to their liking. Sheila IP: Logged |

Same here Thanks Marty. I have bought and sold several timeshares privately but have never used Ebay although I have thought about it. Your research should help once I'm ready to proceed. ------------------ Larry IP: Logged |

Back to the original subject and a question to expand on it:Do any Tuggers have experience and tips to add to those links on eBay that Marty has supplied? I'm especially interested in the renting of units (no, not RCI trades but renting of Fairfield points units which is allowed). Thanks in advance for your advice. Jim IP: Logged |

Thanks Marty for posting. Last month I was going to put a piece up on ebay and I was really uncertain of what I was doing. I ended up sending that piece to an auction house in England that was very happy to list it. After following your links,, I think I might try an item (less valuable) to give it a whirl. I buy things from ebay often. Just everytime I have started to list, I wasn't comfortable. Thanks again.

Information on the spoof email page should be read by all. Those engaged in fraud are very good at what they do. They have apparently hacked into some ebay accounts because one I almost fell for stated that they were trying to clear up a complaint and I had had a complaint lodged against me. I almost bit and gave information but read the email more closely and the poor spelling gave it away. Now, I will never click on an ebay link purporting to be from ebay but unless you are warned you could easily give up your password and account information on ebay or paypal. I love ebay but it is good to be careful in cyberspace!IP: Logged |

ABSOLUTELY, Marty. My biggest problem is getting that permission to go on ebay to rent. I tried going to the whatever (I'm so illiterate) to sign up , but it never worked. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about???------------------ Cheers, Ellen IP: Logged |

You have to be a Travel Seller in order to list TS rentals. I takes maybe 3-5 days to get approval. What I'd like to know is if there is a way from keeping the Travel seller seal being posted to my regular sales - the monthly fee is too high to justify it on the other "stuff" I sell from time to time. quote: Originally posted by Marty Giggard:

Here are our best tips. My sister and I have sold at least 6 timeshares on ebay. Start your auction on a Sat. or Sun. and run it for 7 days. All the bid action happens in the last few minutes of the auction. The other days the auction is up is to get lookers to find you. It is counter productive to run a 30 day auction. Since no one posts their bids till the last minute, you offering sits there at a minimum price with few bids for 29 days and you actually become "shopworn". We used to do 10 day auctions starting on Thurs. to end on Sunday, but we found that competing sellers would beat our prices on Sat. and we had already set our Buy It Now Price and our Reserve price. So we now just run 7 day auctions. The weekend theory is that there are more lookers on the weekend. We're not sure if a low, low start price is smart. If you set a reserve price in advance that guarantees your minimum sale, then you are protected from giving away your timeshare. And low prices generate more bids because bidders know they are not binding bids until the reserve is met. When the reserve is met usually all action stops until the last few seconds. But the low prices also means that the auction goes up in much smaller increments. But the auctions with the most bids gets more bidders to join in. That's the psychology of auctions. The fun is to beat out other bidders. We also spend the money for the Feature Plus. It adds $19.95 to the ad, but it always sorts up at the top in any search. Our typical ad costs $40-50. And we always use pictures and a gallery picture. But if you are selling a Marriott timeshare do not use pics from the Marriott website as they are considered copyrighted and ebay will ask you to take your auction down. Hopes this helps. The basic/main information is located in the first post at the top of the pageQ: Has anyone had any success with: E-Bay "Want It Now" Feature http://pages.ebay.com/wantitnow/about.html Q: Has anyone ever been or hired a Trading Assistant What was your experience Getting Started as a Trading Assistant http://pages.ebay.com/tradingassistants/becoming-trading-assistant.html Q: Do you think that an average timeshare owner that does not have the knowledge, time or skills to list a timeshare on ebay would pay an experience ebay assistant to list his/her timeshare for a fee If so what do you think would be a reseasonable fee to charge/or pay for this type of business service

I think this thread is wonderful and I copied it so I don't forget all the info on it. Great job Marty and THANKS.I think this should be a permanent thread on the top of the buying, selling and trading board. That way it could be a reference tool for us newbies and for anyone else who needs EBay assistance. IP: Logged |

Here is an opportunity to Sell your Timeshare and Make a Donation to your favorite Charity What is eBay Giving Works? eBay Giving Works is a unique program that enables you to list your items on eBay and donate between 10% and 100% of the final sale price to your favorite nonprofit organizations. As a seller, this is a way to make a difference in your community while building your business on eBay. Sellers who participate in this program: Differentiate their eBay listings with a distinctive ribbon icon. Drive additional buyers to their items with specialized search functionality. Tend to generate higher final sale prices (buyers typically pay more for items that benefit a nonprofit). Enhance buyer loyalty by aligning with a cause. Receive a receipt for their tax-deductible donations.
