Wow! All the info is mindboggling! Bought a timeshare in South Africa (on the advice of friends who did the same) to exchange. From what I have read so far, I get the impression that this may not have been a smart move. Anyway, we're willing to wait for an exchange, have two weeks deposited into R.C.I. - and want to trade into Portugal. Fairly flexible with dates - 2006 - bringing 2-3 teenagers -beach resort preferred. I haven't put an actual search on - read Dial an Exchange might be a better way to go for a Europe exchange. Could use some help please. Own one week in Champagne Resort, South Africa - Red week Gold Crown. IP: Logged |

South African timeshares are still fair traders especially if you are flexible with dates and plan in advance. Don't be discouraged.I have not traded to Portugal but we will be spending three weeks in Costa del Sol in May..... all on South African exchanges. Destinations like Spain, Portugal, Orlando that have loads of timeshares are easier to exchange with South African properties than let's say Aruba or NYC. First advice is to research what resort you want to trade for. Go to the resort review section on TUG and see what others say about their Portugal vacations. I'd rather trade to a resort others have said good things about....then I can work around the dates RCI has available. Hope this helps....email me direct if you need more help. I agree with previous poster - check out the resorts you would be willing to trade into and make a list of resort numbers. Then, go online and put in ongoing searches for those specific resorts with each of your deposited weeks. With an ongoing exchange, you will have first crack at any weeks that come up in your selected resorts before they are released onto the website for everyone to see. Once you have one week confirmed, modify your ongoing search dates on the second week to get a second week back to back.I was able to arrange back to back weeks in Portugal and Spain, however I did the searches 2 years out (Portugal confirmed June 9/04 for visit April 29/06 and Spain confirmed July 19/04 for visit April 22/06). You mentioned DAE - if your weeks are already deposited with RCI you can't take them out to use with DAE so you should start your RCI search ASAP. Hope this helps, ------------------ Colleen IP: Logged |

Hi again.....With all this snow I wish I were in Portugal now. Another thing you should do is to become familiar with the search procedures on the RCI site. You are probably exchanging "weeks" and not points. Do some test exchanges to see what your resort in South Africa can pull.....you might be pleasantly surprised. Another thing.....read the TUG posts on the South Africa board. Go back a year and see what others say. Many have found that red/white/gold/standard resorts all pull similar exchanges. You really need to play around and do some trials. Have lots of date possibilities and exchange far in advance. As an example here's what I pulled with a South African week for June/July of 2006 in Malaga Spain & Portugal: Resort Name Resort ID Location Max Occ Check-in Date Range MTO at Mijas Golf 0793 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/03/2006 - 07/22/2006 Pueblo Evita Club See Reviews 1370 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/03/2006 - 06/25/2006 Club la Costa at Marina del Sol See Reviews 1409 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/02/2006 - 07/15/2006 Club la Costa at Benal Beach See Reviews 1460 Malaga, SPAIN 4/2 06/03/2006 - 07/01/2006 Pestana Viking Hotel See Reviews 1604 Porches, PORTUGAL 2/2 06/10/2006 - 07/22/2006 Heritage Resorts at Matchroom See Reviews 1867 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/03/2006 - 07/01/2006 Pestana Palm Gardens See Reviews 1977 Lagoa, PORTUGAL 6/6 06/01/2006 - 06/01/2006 Royal Oasis Club at Benal Beach 1990 Malaga, SPAIN 4/2 06/10/2006 - 06/10/2006 Club la Costa at Las Farolas See Reviews 2165 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/02/2006 - 06/25/2006 Club Playa Flores See Reviews 2221 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/03/2006 - 06/24/2006 Club Albufeira See Reviews 2414 Albufeira, PORTUGAL 6/2 06/03/2006 - 06/24/2006 Club la Costa at Marina Park See Reviews 2430 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/04/2006 - 07/23/2006 Vau'hotel 2577 Portimao, PORTUGAL 4/2 06/25/2006 - 06/25/2006 Balaia Park 2731 Albufeira, PORTUGAL 6/2 06/10/2006 - 06/17/2006 Elite Apartments at Pueblo Evita 3583 Malaga, SPAIN 6/4 06/25/2006 - 06/25/2006 Club la Costa at Marina del Rey 3733 Malaga, SPAIN 6/2 06/03/2006 - 07/22/2006 Amarilis Club 4432 Portimao, PORTUGAL 4/2 06/04/2006 - 06/04/ Good luck, Marty
