I am not sure about the trading power. We stayed there in 1996, boy time flies!! LOR is beautiful and spread out. It is not as modern as the Grand Okanagan resort across the lake in Kelowna, but we preferred Lake Okanagan resort, due to its rustic charm.------------------ Keith IP: Logged |

I would guess that a summer week would be a killer trader - almost anything in B.C. is. For what it's worth, I believe that the Fairmont group of resorts has recently acquired LOR and there was some scuttlebutt a few weeks or months ago about some kind of internal exchange/point system being set up.Bev IP: Logged |

We have stayed at the Lake Okangan Resort on several occasions over the last 7 year. Although we have enjoyed our visits, the resort is in need of repair and the previous "Children's program" is not as good as it used to be (and costs extra money - used to be included). They also used to have activities by the pool (Bingo, Casino night), that were also good for the adults, but not during our last visit. We have alway rented and the room we had this summer was very run down (although clean enough). We had also asked for handicapped access for our son who had just had an accident and they put us in a room that was NOT handicapped accessible at the bottom of a steep hill. They did seem to be renovating some of the units. Make sure you find our where in the resort you are buying (the hills are very steep for waling to the pool). There is also a lot of noise from above (kids running up and down). These are wood buildings and not very soundproof... good like and do your homework of prices...------------------ David IP: Logged |

Not sure how June would trade - for red hot trade power, you need weeks 26 to 35, and unlike the U.S., probably weeks 30, 31, 32 would be the best - plus 31 usually includes the long weekend in August.Don't know if you've visited there at all - we drove up there and for me, it was just too darn far from Kelowna. Plus built on the edge of a mountain, basically. Didn't look inside the rooms, but I'd definitely make the drive up there before I bought. Just my .02 worth. IP: Logged |

I understand that trying to get a trade into the B.C. interior in the summer is difficult since you hardly see any weeks being put up for trade. How that translates into trading power I'm not sure. Just remember though that RED weeks are not all equal no matter what the sales agent tries to impress on you that RED weeks means you can trade anywhere. It depends on the demand for your resort.About the resort....we stayed there a few years back on one of their promotional night package. Depends on your tastes but we found the resort needs updating since it has been around for many years. The rooms were clean but not spectacular. Plus it is on the west side of the lake from Kelowna and is about a half hour drive to the bridge that crosses over to Kelowna. It is quite isolated and built on a hill. The pictures that show the resort is deceiving, it is not a flat property. The 9 hole pitch and putt golf course is at the top of property along with the dining area. Our room was about 30 feet below that so we had to hike down some stairs and the beach/boating area was another hike down from our rooms. We were really impressed with the Grand Okanagan, though. The facilities were excellent, Casino right in the hotel, great location in Kelowna and right on the boardwalk on the lake. It might be good idea to try their promotional nights to see whether it suits your tastes. However, if you are just looking to buy a timeshare just to trade there are better options such as a South African timeshare - which costs way less and has great trading power. Sounds crazy but check out the other boards. ------------------ A bad day in Hawaii beats a good day at the Office any time. IP: Logged |

I appreciate all the input here. I wanted the Lake Okanagan both for trading purposes and to stay at once in awhile. I just dont have the time to go check out the property but am having doubts about the layout of the property. I might try to go with an SA timeshare and when i do want to stay in either kelowna or whistler, will try to do an exchange early on.thanks again. IP: Logged |

If you want to get into Whistler in either winter (mid-Jan - mid April) or summer (mid-June - August), you will probably need something stronger than a South African week.------------------ Steve Nelson ** What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare? - W.H. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that most (if not all) the timeshare resorts in Kelowna are II and not RCI, so an SA week may not help you get there. -- giselleIP: Logged |

Both Steve and Giselle are right - LOR is the only RCI resort in Kelowna. And South Africa definitely won't get you there in the summer.Bev IP: Logged |
