Has anyone stay at the new Carriage Ridge units in Barrie? How are they? Would it be better to stay there or Carriage Hills? Thanks

If you can be patient for a little while, we'll be staying at Carriage Ridge during Labor Day week. I'll file a review after that.

Based on a few postings in response to a question I asked, Carriage Ridge opened in July and looks to be very nice.

I too would be interested in the review. I have stayed at Carriage Hills. My parents are booked into Carriage Ridge the first week in October.

I keep an eye out for your review. Thanks

I have just returned from a week long stay at Carriage Ridge, in a 2 bdrm unit, travelling with my wife and 3 kids under 3.

We stayed at Carriage Hills last year. the units were built to exactly the same layout, and were identical except that the Carriage Ridge unit had a nicer living/kitchen area which was ultra modern with marble counter tops in kitchen and smooth top stove.

Carriage ridge guests can only use the facilities at carriage ridge and at horseshoe inn. The rec centre at Carriage ridge only has an indoor pool, kiddie pool and hot tub, but no outdoor pool and has an outdoor deck no bigger than 8x20 ft.

Carriage Hills has a much nicer rec centre, with an indoor/outdoor pool and nicer exercise room and library.

They have only opened one of the three buildings so far at Carriage Ridge, so it's very quiet. They have not yet constructed the kids play area at Carriage Ridge.

Either resort is very nice, but my preference is Carriage Hills.

If you need equip. such as play pens or high chairs, it's all new at Carriage Ridge. They only have DVD players at the ridge, whereas at Carriage Hills, last year they only had VCRs.

We just returned from a weekend at Carriage Ridge and now 2 of the buildings are open. The resort area is a lot smaller, so even though there were not many families there, it was noisy. In comparison to Carriage Hill where there are many buildings but well spread out so the noise does not carry as bad.

The only things that the Ridge had over the Hill was the exercise room, gas bbqs and dvd players.

My husband and I prefer the outdoor pool and sauna at Carraige Hills and the quiter environment.

We're at CR now. Agree with the two post above.

CR is nothing more than a nice apartment complex in the middle of nowhere. More details in a few days.

I just returned last week and found the rooms abit smaller compared to C. Hills and the resort lacked ambiance . I also heard they wanted $27,000 for a 2 bedroom.

Would carriage ridge be the better resort in the winter because it is closer to the skiing and you are supposed to be able to get on the slopes without driving?

Carriage Ridge definitely qualifies as a ski out resort. It is adjacent to the top of 3 of the lifts so one could just go out and ski down the hill.

Don't plan on a long trip down the hill, though. According to my GPS, the vertical drop from the top to the bottom of the runs is about 250 feet. The ski hills are so long and steep that it took us about 10 minutes to walk up to Carriage Ridge from the bottom of the run. Maybe thats why lift tickets only cost $44 Cdn. for eight hours.

My Carriage Hill review went off to TUG and RCI today. It was very positive with regard to that part of Ontario, but pretty negative with regard to Carriage Ridge. My good feelings about Ontario brought the rating up to 6. The resort has essentially zero in the way of amenities; what few there are require a 15 or 20 minute walk along a mud and gravel construction road to Carriage Hills or a 10 minute drive down to Horseshoe Resort.

I just read the above comment about the better exercise room at CR. Things must be horrendous at Carriage Hills because the exercise room at CR only contained 3 or 4 pieces of equipment.

Anyone going to Carriage Ridge needs to know that it is a standard resort, not a Gold Crown resort.
