The Ask Interval International forum was established as a means of posting questions to and getting direct answers from Craig Urbine, Vice President Member Services, Interval International. At the end of 2003 Craig announced the end of his participation in this forum. No replacement representative has been provided by Interval International, so this forum has been closed to further posts. For current discussion about II see the other forums on the board, especially Exchanging.

The information in existing posts is being left in place as much of it is valuable for future reference.

Craig, I'm sure this has been answered, I just can't find or remember all the details at present. If a person sells a week and wants to transfer the banked week to the new owner, is there a fee and when does the "replacement" week expire? Thanks in advance.

Usually we transfer the entire membership with the existing activity. The transfer itself is at no charge however we do require the membership to be renewed for one year at the time of transfer.

If you own multiple weeks, we will void the deposit and issue a certificate to replace the deposited week. This is a system "work around" which means the certificate may not offer the same trading power as the week on deposit. This may or may not work to your advantage. In this case, the expiration date will be the same as the original deposit expiration date. No extension may be purchased on these certificates.

Craig,

I found replies from you about the transfer of an II membership when a week is sold but have an additional question.

If the seller wishes to transfer his entire membership along with banked weeks to a buyer who is already an II member, can the two memberships be combined somehow.

Thank you,

Sheila

Yes, you would need to transfer the membership first and then request the two to be merged.

Since this thread resurfaced, I'll give the final outcome. I transferred the deposited week to the buyer but not the membership as I own other timeshares with II. II essentially issued a generic week good for a year to the new owner and assigned future usage of the week in question to the new owner and removed it form my account. This was exactly as Craig had said it would work. II called to clarify our intent as I sent the info by email and then contact the resort who confirmed the new owners information. All went according to plan. Craig, thanks for the help.

Hi Craig,

I just bought a unit at Williamsburg Plantation that had a banked week and the seller has asked her II rep to transfer the account to me...She was told that could not be done.

I just opened an account a few days ago and would like to qualify for having paid an additional year of membership as shown...maybe merging the accounts would work out.

Who should we speak to to accomplish this because we have both been told that II does not transfer memberships...They said the seller needs to cancel their membership in writing and then I could receive an AC for the banked week...I can be flexiblle regarding the banked week but I would like to gain the offer from the seller whose membership is paid up to 2008...

My email is johnfornal@yahoo.com

Thanks for your attention

John
