Visited the Maui Starwood complex. Was surprised at the small eating facility but other than that it is very nice. Here is the latest info: 2BR OF Weeks 1-50 $69.9, 40,000 Starpts; 2BR Deluxe OF $74.9 with zero SP; 2BR OV $47.9, 80K SP; 1BR OV $31.9 100K SP. Occupancy 2006. Was told they are looking/dealing at two properties in Kauai and I think he said one in Big Island.Weather has been real windy (or tradewinds, if you insist ). One of the whale watching cats went aground and had to be put in repair. Ocean looks a little verboden IP: Logged |

Kathy - The new sister resort being built next door, will have a full-service restaurant. These prices are for the current resort and not the new property - correct? ------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

Yes, the current resort. You all are lucky you aren't here this week. We have not seen one catamaran picking up snorkelers the last 5 days. The winds have been real bad and the waves are crashing right at the shore. We are 'supposed' to go whale watching this morning -- questionable.IP: Logged |

Cathy, that's interesting about those prices. I was just speaking to a rep about maybe downgrading Harborside (otherwise we'll sell it) to EOY and upgrading Ka'anapli to annual. She told me they'd do it, but it would be $54K for a 2 bdrm OV for Ka'anapali. I wonder what that's all about.Sorry to hear about the weather. We just got back from 3 nights on Big Island and 5 nights in Kauai. We got lucky and got in right between all the storms. Christy IP: Logged |

I heard that prices will be going up Feb. 1, but no exact numbers. Something like "as much as $5K more" for some intervals.IP: Logged |

Tina - we liked the Waiohai. It's a nice resort. The grounds were pretty and well-maintained. There were a couple of big rock waterfalls and ponds. A smaller pool and bigger pool. My kids actually kept going to the smaller pool. They spent most of the time in the spas because the water wasn't heated. Oh, there was a 3rd pool that was only 2 ft deep, too. The Marketplace on site was convenient. You'd want to stop at a market for a full week of groceries, but onsite had a lot of stuff. They have an onsite restaurant now. Food was decent and prices were reasonable (especially after 3 days at the Hilton Waikoloa. Anything seems reasonable!). There was a bar by the pool. Property is right on the beach. Rooms were on par w/Starwood. They are all 2 brdm (non-l/o). Staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay. We're looking forward to going back in 2007 ;-) If you know of anyone who might want to go on their explorer package ($599 for 5 nights + rental car), let me know and I'll submit their names. You're going this summer, right? Start looking forward to it!!!! :-) I enjoyed Kauai a lot more this time than I did 17 yrs ago. The sunsets from the beach bar are amazing! Christy IP: Logged |

Hi Christy - What are the requirements for the explorer Pkg.? How "hard-sell" was the presentation? Thanks! ------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

Denise - I think it's married + $75K annual income, both spouses must attend. We cut through all the "blah, blah blah" stuff since we knew enough about timeshares. It wasn't hard sell. Cathy, I'm wondering if Starwood isn't going through a little upheaval right now? I'm wondering why the girl told me $54, when I could exercise my EOY for signficantly less? Must not think we can do the math. We have an EOY there right now. First visit is in July, right before our 12 mo. option expires. Do you think it's a good property to own annual? Thanks, Christy IP: Logged |

Christy, Why are you planning to sell your Harborside? Didn't you just buy it recently? Just wondering... IP: Logged |

REally? The rooms on par with WEstin. I expected Westin to be a notch better. However, I've never stayed in a Westin T/S so what do I know.... This summer will be the first... Glad you had fun. We love Kauai so we are happy we bought there. We'll be there in August after our one week stay at the Westin... Can't wait... We'll have to step up a TUG meet at the pool. One thing to be sure of when the agent calls you acted really interested in the resort. My aunt kinda had an attitude with them and they wouldn't give her the package. They felt she was only using the package for a cheap hotel stay which was true. She is sorry she did because she really wanted to stay there but they wouldn't let her. Also, I think, you can only do 1 marriott promo every 2 years. HTH, Tina... ------------------ You can see my timeshare photos here: http://community.webshots.com/user/ciscogizmo IP: Logged |

True confessional - I haven't stayed @ our Westin t/s, so I can't officially compare. Just comparing from the photos. But the units were nice. Full kitchen w/granite counters, big tub (I didn't use it, so I didn't even pay attention if it's jacuzzi. Lame, I know), quality furnishings. I guess it'll be fun to compare. Starting w/Kierland in May.Denise, we're just kind of readjusting things. There's nothing wrong w/Harborside. We're not in a need to sell position. It would help purchase the EOY for Ka'anapali. We've had some changes in the past year, so it would work better if we can switch properties. IP: Logged |

Christy: Yes, based on how much the Marriott Maui has increased in price, my guess is that Starwood will do same -- until the sales staff moves on in a few years.IP: Logged |

Cathy - We asked about this in the owner's meeting this summer and the sales staff is not moving on for a long time. Starwood has plans to build more resorts in the islands and the Ka'anapali Resort is going to be their main sales office. They will be there as long as Starwood is developing more timeshares in anywhere in Hawaii.

Got an email from my salesperson at the Kaanapali villas - an EOY OV 1BD is $22,900 but current owners can get it for only $17,000 - "instant equity!" The things salespeople say.Matt IP: Logged |

I am really surprised - last summer that was the price for MOUNTAIN VIEW! I thought Ocean View was going for more. ------------------ Denise IP: Logged |

Denise, are you sure last summer $17,000 was the price for EOY Mountain View? Sounds more like every year. I can't imagine that OV is the same as mountain or that they've lowered the prices on OV.IP: Logged |

I think so - they were pushing it as the cheapest way to get elite membership. Maybe it was for EY. My crs gets worse every day!

Prices are definitely NOT going down.It might have been 50% off of a $36K 2 BD MV = $18K for the EOY, but I can't be sure. In any case, the prices continue to slowly creep up and inventory is supposedly very low. IP: Logged |

I just returned from Maui where I was considering a purchase of a 2 bedroom EOY. I gave them a small deposit with more due this week before they will send me a contract. Fortunately, I discovered this website and am now having second thoughts based on some of the things I have read. I will share the prices given to me. OV 2bedroom: EOY is $33,900, EY is $48,900. OV 1 bedroom EY is 33,900. If you want fixed (room and date) add 20%. ------------------ joninca IP: Logged |

GoToCurvesI'd like to understand how Starwood would work w/ you on your change of your Harborside property to EOY. Additionally, I'd be interested in finding out if you can convert an annual usage into 2 EOY usage weeks, so you could sell one to a 3rd party. You can e-mail if you'd prefer. Thanks!!!! IP: Logged |
