Earlier this year I had a packing list question. Someone "asked Fern" on it. She replied that she brought along her old undies and just threw them away.

I bring along laundry tablets and dishwasher tablets. These products have come along in the last few years and they are WONDERFUL for travelling.

Amway makes a laundry tablet called SA-8 Spin-off that is wrapped in a dryer conditioning sheet. Dump the whole thing in the washer and the wet conditioner cloth will just transfer with the clothes to the dryer. Does a great job and is perfect for traveling.

Once you get there, buy a styrofoam cooler at any of the grocery stores and stick it in the back of the car. Replenish it daily with a bag of ice and you will always have cold bottles of water and pop and you won't die of salmonella after eating your lunch by the side of the road! They cost maybe $4-5 which you recoup with your first "packed along" lunch!

Before you buy a cooler check to see if the timeshare you're staying at has one. Our timeshare at Maui Hill has an "owner's closet" and there are usually beach chairs, coolers, etc. in it for use. Other places we've stayed have had coolers available at the front desk.

We have a few rules on packing when we go to Maui. Put your clothes in the suitcase. Take half of them out and put them away! We include binoculars so we can watch the whales. A corkscrew to enjoy the bubbly we buy at Costco. A good hat and sunscreen to protect you from the rays. We take a soft sided coller full of meat for a few dinners and lunches, then use the cooler to pack stuff to take home. We use ziplocks to put our shampoo and sunscreen in so if they accidently open during the flight, the rest of the stuff in your suitcase or shaving bag doesn't get coated. Gallon size to put wet suits in to travel. I leave all unnecessary credit cards and wallet inserts at home. No Nordstrom on Maui! Only 5 weeks till we'll be on Maui!
