We will be taking our 4-6 year old grandkids to Disney in april. This time we want to do a character meal (either breakfast or dinner) and would like to hear from Tuggers which one they think is best for the kids. Food is not as important as is the interaction of the characters with the kids. We'd like main characters like Mickey,Goofy, Minnie etc. I have looked at the Disney page but would like to hear from actual experiences. Also, we will be going the week of April 11th. Which day would probably be the least busy Mon.-Thurs??? Thanks for any help. SherryIP: Logged |

We did the one at Cinderella's castle this summer with 7 year old girl and 5 year old boy. We all loved it. The characters were wonderful, all princesses, and stayed a long time. This meal has fewer seats, so you get more time with princesses. The food was excellent. I made hubby, and both adult sons go and though they didn't want to, all enjoyed. The extra bonus was, we had a first seating and were done about the time the park opened, so we got at front of line for a ride that usually has long lines.Nancy IP: Logged |

For the main characters I like chef mickey in the contemporary. We've been a couple of times and always get a good deal of time with each character. I've done both breakfast and dinner with success. If the kids like pooh, tigger, eyeore etc. the crystal palace in magic kingdom has a good breakfast where each character comes to your table. The only problem with Cinderella Castle, is that it's near impossible to book. We enjoy the dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern, in the Magic Kingdom.------------------ DVC member IP: Logged |

In November 2003, just about our whole extended family went together to Breakfast At Chef Mickey's to celebrate our grandniece's 8th birthday.Lots of costumed characters strolled by for photos & hugs with the kids -- Chip & Dale, Snow White, Cinderella, Goofy, Pluto, Mickey, Minnie, various princesses, & I don't know who all. As I recall Chef Mickey's is in Disney's Contemporary resort -- the 1 with the monorail running right through the lobby atrium. There's an informative Internet link at... http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/mealcm.html -- Alan Cole, McLean (Fairfax County), Virginia, USA.

We liked the Character Breakfast at the Beach Club. It's a buffet, and the food was very good. It's a festive atmosphere, and a fun way to kick off a day at the parks.IP: Logged |

We did the Hoop de doo Revue when my kids were smaller. The show was excellent, the performers danced around our table & asked my kids to go up on stage and be part of the show (they were too shy). It is not a "character" meal, per say, but there were characters there (I think Mickey, Minnie & goofy). It was great. Noisy, incredibly fun and interactive. We have been to lots of other character meals and most of them were nothing really special. My kids still remember the great time they had at the Hoop de doo but never mention any of the other character breakfasts / dinners.------------------ Helen IP: Logged |

I imagine they are all good. We did the one in Animal Kingdom and loved it. Things to consider: 1)Are the kids early risers. Mine are so we were one of the first guest and got out of Breakfast to ride all the rides in Dino land before the crowds. A freind suggested doing the Crystal Palace first thing. Nothing beats walking down mainstreet without the crowds. 2) Do you want to use "park time" to do the breakfast/dinner? If not do Chef Mickey's or other on one of your "off" days. The choices can become overwelming.IP: Logged |

Chief Mickey, was wonderful last year. The kids really got excited when the characters made their rounds. The food was very good also, had a little bit of everything.Don't forget to make reservations ahead of time. [This message has been edited by ml855 (edited 01-18-2005).] IP: Logged |

Chef Mickey in the Contemporary gives it all - a big buffet, plus plenty of food especially geared to please little ones, and they make sure that Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Chip/Dale make it to your table before you go. AND you get the bonus of the Contemporary and seeing the train run through the building which should be a treat for kids of that age ( really all ages [This message has been edited by irenelf (edited 01-18-2005).] IP: Logged |

We did the character dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom 4 years ago. I enjoyed it thoroughly(I was 43 at the time0, and my niece and nephew also had a great time. The food was family style "comfort food": roast beef, potatoes, carrots, chicken, salad, and much more-excellent. I particularly liked the one character making fun of my lack of hair-it was a hoot. I would do that one again in a minute- with or without the children. This dinner was after a miserably hot and crowded day (98 degrees in June) at the Magic Kingdom. I wasn't expecting that good of a "show". I was very impressed.IP: Logged |

The best rated ones are usually Chef Mickey's and O'hana. Cindy's is very tough to get and many have been disappointed in the food and characters. The princess meal at Norway has received a lot of good press lately as well. We like O'hana best doing a late reservation and making it a brunch. Go to MK early, then take the monorail or boat back to the Poly for our reservation.------------------ Dean My Home Page IP: Logged |

I was very lucky and got into Cindy's the week of July 4. Got in second day I tried. The lady on phone said "You must know what you are doing!" Really didn't, just got through right before they opened. I can't compare because my previous visit was 17 years before.Nancy IP: Logged |

We've been to:Cinderella's Royal Table: Great for little girls... The food served family style and not very tasty. Ohana's Character Breakfast: We didn't have a good experience here. The characters were rushed. We didn't like the family style food choices. My kids perfer french toast & pancakes over scrambled eggs. Chef Mickey's Dinner: Great character interaction. Almost too much. Food selection was good. I liked the variety. Crystal Palace Dinner: Great characters like pooh, tigger, etc... The food was much better than Chef Mickey's. Breakfast in Norway w/ the princesses: Great character interaction but we really don't like the family style dining which includes eggs, bacon, sausage, pototoes, pasteries, etc... I am not an egg person unless it is egg benedict! GL... There are almost too many to pick from. Eventually, we like to try them all... ------------------ You can see my timeshare photos here: http://community.webshots.com/user/ciscogizmo IP: Logged |

The Garden Grill in "The Land" in Epcot. Food served family style in a large skillet with unlimited "refills". Catfish, flank steak (most excellent) and chicken (maybe) with side dishes. I have teenage boys so the character interaction was NOT a highlight for them, the characters handled them very well. Food was very good and the price was reasonable.IP: Logged |

Liked the one with the characters from England, Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland. It was at the big hotel like the Coronado in California... the name escapes me but it was very nice and food was good. ALso liked the Crystal Palace, fun and good. Celebrated a birthday there with friends from England and they had a great time !!! IP: Logged |

We did Chef Mickeys and there was a lot of character interaction. It was all the popular characters with Mickey being the grand poo-ba so to speak! The food was average to good but we weren't really there for that. They did little napkin waving songs etc to get the kids excited. You can make a priority seating reservation within 90 days of your visit by calling WDW main line. This helps, as you just go up and get the next available table. After dinner, we hopped on the monorail and took a ride around the resorts. Castle is beautiful at night. It was a very fun way to kick off our vacation. In regards to the Hoop de Doo. This is a dinner show that you must have reservations too. I think it ran us close to $60 per person for adults kids were a little less. It was an extremely funny, slapstick, western comedy type show with lots of audience participation. I don't know of anyone elses experience but definitely no characters when we went. It was all cowboys etc. Good luck Jenn IP: Logged |

I've seen the show at least 4 times, and have never seen the Disney Characters. I guess anything's possible at WDW.------------------ DVC member IP: Logged |

Chef Mickey'sI also love Goofy's bleach blast - over at the BC -Cape May Cafe. but only Goofy, Minnie, CHip and Dale are here you generally get more characters at Chef Mickey - be prepared to party.... Norway is going to all princess - not only for breakfast - but lunch and dinner too. I like norway the way it WAS.... IP: Logged |

We did Chef Mickey's one year and the one at Cape May another year. Both were nice, but Chef Mickey's had the guy himself, so you can't beat that.We have heard of one at Fort WIlderness. I think it is called the Back Yard BBQ (not hoop-de-doo), that sounded interesting, that we are thinking about for our next visit. Also at Fort Wilderness is the nightly campfire sing a long with Chip and Dale. This is free and they show a movie after. We have never stayed for the movie. They also sell supplies to make somemores. I would be definately interested in the character meal with Mary Poppins because my 4 year old is in love with Mary Poppins right now. If you remember where it was I would appreciate that. I am thinking in Epcot England? Mike IP: Logged |

We would recommend Micky's Backyard BBQ.You have a great night, good food, entertainment and chance to dance with Micky, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale. Lots of autographs and photos.....it was not that busy. We went in October 2004 and will be back on our return in 2005. ------------------ Tuscany Hilton GVC on International Drive, Orlando IP: Logged |
