Ok, for months I was expecting RCI to cancel my early Oct. exchange at the Morritt's Grand.
Now that it is getting closer I would love to book airfare but don't want to lose $$ if the exchange gets cancelled.
What do you think...
Go ahead and book airfare and hope for the best? Wait another month and hope the airfare prices don't climb higher?

I purchased insurance after the huricanes and do not know if or what it will cover if the resort is not ready.
Thanks.

I would wait to buy airfare to Morritts. We were confirmed to Morritts for December 2004 and when our flights were cancelled I requested a full refund. I booked through RCI travel and American Airlines approved my refund six months ago but said I need to get my money back from RCI. Well I'm still waiting for my money after getting several run arounds. The latest I heard was AA refunded my full fare to RCI on May 18th but RCI is still looking for the paperwork.

I don't think you will have any problems getting airline tickets if you wait a couple of months. It's strange that it takes a couple of minutes to charge your CC card when you purchase tickets but it's takes more than six months to get a refund.

Larry, I don't understand, were you cancelled already for December 2005?
I fear if I wait too long all the best priced airfare will be gone... but understand is is highly likely the reconstruction will not be done on time.

I haven't bought our tickets yet, either. Do you think airfare will go down closer to October?

A post from Morritt's management appeared yesterday on the Morritt Owners web site. The post provided estimated dates for completion of various rebuilding efforts that are now under way, and photos of those activities. The key statement in this report, pertaining to RCI members trading into the resort, is, "We are dedicated and committed to our owners, and Morritt’s understands that it is imperative to open our doors on September 1, 2005."

If you'd like to see some pics from mid-May click on this

They aren't very comforting and unfortunately they don't capture the fact that construction was going on at the time.

Do you have a RCI exchange or do you own there? What are the dates you have reserved?

As Rod said:

Morritt's Tortuga Club and Morritt's Grand Resort

The dates are subject to change based on delivery of materials and Cayman weather. The contractor is otherwise committed to the below dates.
The Grand (both buildins)is expected to be ready July 1. The Grand pool by August 15.
The Tortuga Club poolside units August 15. Both Tortuga Club pools will be open August 15.
The dock will be complete by mid October. Assume they will bus to the boats prior to that date.
One Tortuga Club oceanfront building will be ready December, 2005.
Other Tortuga Club oceanfront be June, 2006 or December, 2006.
Main lobby August, 2005 with temp locations for the restaurant and bar.
Shopping center accross the street will open November, 2005
Think I got everything correct.

We have an exchange for Oct 28-Nov 5th. I understand that's Pirate's Week, too.
Not an owner (darn!)
What do you think about airfare going down?
Thanks
