I noticed this resort is part of the Fairfield point system. Does anyone know what the maintenance fees are for 126000 points? Where can I purchase a resale for this resort?... prefer already converted to Fairfield points. Are the contracts usually right to use? Is this a gold Crown resort? How is the management? Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks

I belong directly to Geoholiday points system so I can't comment on Fairfield points. The resort is GC. Maintenance for a 2 bedroom red is $450 (US$). I have seen sales on ebay for Fairfield points occasionally, and there is a Geopremiere week on sale right now - VERY overpriced but you might want to contact the owner after the sale ends and offer him something reasonable. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15897&item=2316170687&rd=1

We have stayed at this resort and we are going again this fall. We had a great time, the area is just gorgeous, there is a wonderful gourmet restaurant on site, the resort is on a lake with a beach and rental canoes, etc, and the area offers everything from hiking to boutique shopping, with cheap Canadian $ of course! Email me if you have other questions.

Back from GeoPremiere ... and I'm not impressed at all! I mean, it was alright, but not deserving to be a GC or even a RID! I read various reviews, and they all said the resort it ok... well, I guess I went there at a bad time because their hot water disappears after 2 people have showered, lighting was horrible, and it is very hard to find the place!!!! There are a lot of back roads to take and the resort is not really marked -- it even has a different name for pete's sake! It's called Auberge du Lac Morency! Even the sign has Auberge du Lac Morency in big letters and Club Geopremiere in small ones!
Also, there are no activities at all, even for Easter! Granted the pool and the gym are being renovated, but I was expecting at least an activity for Easter for the kids!
Anyway, I would not recommend it really. Maybe only when there are no other resorts in Eastern Canada available.

Also, I do not believe it is a Fairfield resort which you seem to be looking for to obtain Fairfield points.

It is an "affiliated resort". You can stay at these if you have Fairfield points as they have done some swapping of inventory.

Jenn, we're headed to Club GeoPremiere the last week of June, and now I'm a bit apprehensive after reading about your experience there. Hopefully, the renovations to the pool and gym will be completed by then. Since we won't have any children to entertain on this trip, planned activities at the resort aren't that important to us, but not having enough hot water is not good.

Also, do you mind if I ask what size unit you had and what were the cooking facilities like in the unit? When you say the lighting was horrible, are you referring to lighting inside the unit or at the resort itself? As for locating the resort, my husband loves a challenge, and since we'll be arriving during daylight, I'm hoping we won't have too much trouble finding it. Thanks for the heads up on the signage. In general, what did you think of the location and the surrounging area? TIA for answering my questions. Betty

Hi Betty,

We had 2-br unit, and I think it is C-105. The view is horrendous as it is a contruction site in the front and a wall of dirt in the back. But that's just fine -- what I didn't like is the lighting inside the unit. It is so dark and it's very hard to read, unless you wanna sit in the kitchen.

Lighting in the rooms are as bad, as it is just a pair of low-watt lamp shades (the other room only has one lamp shade.)

The area is really good if you are familiar with the place (I am from Montreal, so I know my way around -- and yet we still got lost despite speaking fluent French!) I loved the factory outlets of St. Sauveur -- I bought a lot of designer clothes and shoes ranging from $4.50 to $40 CDN!!!!

Kitchen-wise, I cannot complain. They had everything we needed! As my dad is a chef by profession, I didn't get involved in the kitchen, but he had no complains!

I think the best advise would be to remember AUBERGE DU LAC MORENCY! Also, the RCI letter that arrived to you says turn left just before Petroco gas station -- that's where we got lost! Because that's not Petroco anymore, but Sonic gas station... so be aware of that.

Take care, and enjoy!
Jenn

Thanks for the info, Jenn. I wonder if it would help if we brought our own high wattage light bulbs. I like to knit in the evening, and my husband likes to read. Looks like neither will be possible with the lighting as you describe it. We've never been to that part of Quebec before, so we'll keep ourselves busy during the day sightseeing. Is the resort situated on a lake as I've been led to believe? Is there a beach? Is the construction you mention for new units, and do you think it will still be a problem come late June? Sorry to have more questions, but I'm just trying to prepare for the worst. Thanks, Betty

Yes it is situated on a lake and there's a beach I believe (it was frozen of course when we were there. The construction is for a basketball court I believe and hopefully it won't be a prob by late June. All in all it wasn't a disaster... I guess it's because I read the reviews on the database and they all say they will come back -- so I expected a really nice resort. It's an average one and hopefully you will be prepared to be disappointed but you will find that the resort is nice at the time you visit. I'd rather have you say "It wasn't so bad as she described" then saying "This is even worst than that!"

Jenn, we're happy to have a "heads up" on what to expect. That way, as you said, we can be pleasantly surprised should things be somewhat better than you described simply because it will be summertime. Actually, we were expecting this to be a simple resort to begin with...just a comfortable place to stay while visiting that part of Canada. The only thing that really bothers me is the poor lighting. We've been to other resorts where the lighting hasn't been good and I hate it, so at least we know ahead of time about this one. I hope we can write back after our trip saying it was much nicer than expected. But, if we can't, at least we can say we were forewarned. Thanks, Betty
