One of the many documents we received when we recently purchased our TS from Marriott was the Request to Opt Out of Disclosures to Non-Affiliated Third Parties. The paper work states "We may share your non-public personal information with non-affiliated third party companies other than as set forth above. If you wish you may request that your non-public personal information not be made available to such companies., other than as permitted by law, by completing and returning the form on the back of this brochure" etc. I took that to mean if you don't opt out formally by signing they will share the info. It even states that joint owners must opt out separately. IP: Logged |

And I thought I recalled reading Marriott's privacy policy -- but I do not remember this. I am disappointed that MVCI would sell info to non-affiliated third parties as a default practice. I'm going to call and see who we need to contact to opt out. Geez. IP: Logged |

We opted out at point of sale. Just some initials and a check box.No contact calls ever, from anyone other than MVCI, and only when we initiate contact (as with getaways, tours, promos, etc). Never received a call once from II. I do recall getting a call from Hilton, plugging the HHonors program, but doubt that came from Marriott sharing data. Pat IP: Logged |

At some Marriott Sales presentations, the sales rep has a piece of paper of our account and the units we own and other information. I would not be surprised if agents at this resale company worked at Marriott at one time and still have their hooks into Marriott. We have a Marriott for sale and this company contacted us with an "offer to list for us". They were extremely rude and almost called us idiots because we do not want to list with them for under 50% of current selling price and if they sell it, they keep 30% of proceeds. We would rather keep it rather than list with such unprofessional individuals. IP: Logged |

I know of a way they could access it easily. They probably bought a list of Marriott owners,or timeshare owners or any number of ways they wanted to have the list sorted. In the financial/real estate industry with trillions of dollars in sales every year( mortages, life insurance, etc) there are list available for everything. There are companies that record every transaction at every registry or county as it applies to any type of real estate transation, deeds, mortgages, liens/ attachments,or any thing else required to be disclosed public. These companies then sell the list to realtors, lawyers, mortgage reps, ins reps, home improvement companies, etc. For example, I can request a list of individuals who have mortgages from xyz company, or whose orginal mortgage started at x amount or higher/lower, or in specfic yr, in a specfic area. Who is in foreclosure or properties with specfic type of liens, etc. These lists can be purchased with or without phones numbers, can be crossed reference for people on the federal do not call lists. The info has to be public. How else could a potential buyer or lender protect their interest if they could not access who owns what and are there any liens that need to be cleared or that may have priority over theirs. When I sold life insurance, mortgages and invested in real estate, I use to subscribe to a newspaper(Bankers and Tradesman) that carried this type of information. You can by lists from them or numerous others. there are leads list for everything, helps the economy (all of us). Hope this helps.IP: Logged |
