Hi Madge,

I am fairly new to RCI points and am confused about how the system works. I was told by an RCI VG that at a certain RCI resort that I am interested in, only a percentage of the units were actually controlled by the RCI points. I don't know if this means converted weeks vs. non-converted weeks, or if it means something else.

Anyway, I wanted to do an on-going search for Christmas 2006 for one of the non RCI points weeks at this particular resort. My understanding is that you can use points for weeks deposits 24 months in advance of check-in. I was told by the VG that I could only search/reserve it using a week deposited in my weeks account if it was more than 10 months in advance of check-in.

If the week comes from a non RCI points unit, why can I not search/reserve with points within the 24 month window? I would understand it if it was a deposit from an RCI points converted unit.

Can you clarify this issue for me?

Thanks

Tom52,

If a resort is affiliated with RCI Points, then you will need to reserve it within the RCI Points program. However, you are not limited to only those units whose owners have converted to Points. If there is a Weeks unit available, the Points system will still allow you to reserve it. Then, the Points system will pay the Weeks system back with an equivalent unit.

Thanks Madge, in your explanation above, if a Weeks unit is available from outside the RCI Points Program can I reserve it with points within the 24 month window, or 10 month window? Also, is it possible to request a search for a non RCI Points week in the "Weeks Program" at an RCI Points resort if I only have RCI points? If so, can the search be within a 24 month window?

Thanks again for the clarifications.

If the unit is from a Weeks-only resort, you would still use points, but you would reserve it as an exchange within the Weeks system, up to 24 months in advance.

If the resort is affiliated with RCI Points, then the unit would need to be reserved within RCI Points (Standard Reservation, etc.) If the resort is affiliated only with RCI Weeks, then you would confirm as described above.
