My friends and I are looking into a cruise on the Mediterranean next summer. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?
I checked out Celebrity Cruises - they dock in Greece, Italy, Spain and one other port.
Anyone take the cruise on Carnival?

I would like at least three days on land before we board the cruise ship.

I am open to any suggestions, advice and comments.

TIA
JMM

We are doing one in October 2006--out of Venice to Rome. I am working on getting a group rate and so far I have 5 cabins reserved. The one we have is the Greek Islands -- 12 nights on
Princess. We plan to spend a few extra nights in Rome at the end. We can hardly wait. Jan

Book early! We booked our Oct. 2005 cruise in May of 2004. By mid summer it was almost sold out and all the lesser expensive cabins were gone. By year end it was sold out except for the most expensive cabins and those were thousands of dollars per person.

So pick one and book early is my best advice.

About 10 years ago we went on one out of Athens Greece. It was
the Pegasus, that sailed to Rhodes, Patmas and Kosadasie Turkey
and back to Athens. I would have liked to gone to the Island of
Crete but never could arrange it.

There are big differences between caribean cruise and the Greek Isles.

Retailman,

What are the differences in the Caribbean and Greek Isles cruises?

JMM,

You will also get good advice on www.cruisecritic.com

Many Tuggers have said that cruisecritic.com is to cruising as Tug is to Timeshares.

Depending on your port and times, you might want to consider a tour operator. We used driverinrome.com. Daniel was fabulous. Met us at the boat in Livorno(Florence) first day; Civitivecchia(Rome) day 2; and Naples day 3. Shared expense with 2 other couples. Who else can get you into the Vatican museum within minutes of arrival. Cheaper and much much better than ship's tours.

Hi JMM,
Here's a piece of advice you probably won't take, but what the heck....I think you should take me with you, and I'll do a ship inspection, pre-taste the food, etc. for you

The cabin are even smaller. Not as many things to do on board.
Food is not as good and not as plentifull. No midnight buffet.
