We'll be in Washington for three days mid-October before going to Williamsburg. We're looking for a hotel that is close to public transportation since we won't be renting a car until right before we go to Williamsburg. Thanks.IP: Logged |

We love the J.W. Marriott. It's close to the subway...and EVERYTHING is in walking distance.IP: Logged |

Use Priceline.com after you do your homework on biddingfortravel.com On Biddingfortravel, you'll find a list of hotels Priceline uses in each part of the city. There are also reviews of the hotels. The hotels are grouped by * accomodation level and parts of the city. Priceline uses only about 3-5 hotels in each quadrant in each * category. You won't get a dump of a hotel, and you'll save a lot of money.IP: Logged |

Two specific recommendations: Embassy Suites at Chevy Chase Pavilion. You don't even need to go outside to get to the metro stop at this one. It is on the DC/Maryland border, attached to a nice shopping center. This is on the Metro's Red Line and is our personal favorite for DC stays. Parking is also available for a fee.A Hyatt that is by Key Bridge in Virginia. This one is on the Orange Line, I believe. The metro stop is across the street. It's very convenient to the orange line downtown, or a very quick cab ride across Key Bridge to Georgetown. Lacking in the space and included breakfast buffet offered by Embassy Suites but perfectly suitable for two persons. IP: Logged |

Hotels in Crystal City are also a good choice. Check how close they are to metro. There is also a Ritz Carlton at Pentagon City that is very nice (not cheap). Can get to metro there without going outside and attached to shopping center. I live in DC area and never drive into DC.Nancy IP: Logged |

We were in Washington DC in April. We rented a room for a couple of nights at the Fairfield Alexandria (just beautiful) and then went on to Fairfield Kingsgate in Williamsburg. We rented from a fellow tugger who posts In the last minute rentals. His tug name is Johnstonga. Why don't you get a hold of him and see if he can get you a room? The rental worked out great and we also went to lunch with him in Williamsburg, he's a great guy.Laurie P.S. the fairfield Alexandria is only a block away from a metro station. Makes it very easy to get in and out of D.C. [This message has been edited by Loops (edited 06-02-2005).] IP: Logged |

We typically use priceline for hotel choices in D.C. We have been lucky enough to stay at Westin's both times. They have great accomodations and relatively close to subways/buses and other attractions.Good Luck and Enjoy ------------------ Carpe Diem! IP: Logged |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've used Priceline in the past for other areas - so know how that works. Will also contact the person who has rentals at Fairfield Alexandria. I have a few more questions but will post on the "new" TUG board on Monday.IP: Logged |
