Has anybody used AirTran lately? For bargain fares, do they preassign seats or is it something like SouthWest?

TIA

I just flew them in april and all went well. I got a cheap fare on line through their website. It would not allow me to pick my own seats because of the price. It said my seats would be assigned at checkin. I had nightmares that me and my daughter were going to end up on opposite ends of the plane. As a first time flyer I knew my daughter wasn't going to like that. Upon checking my bags I inquired about this and the agent told me that if tickets are bought at the same time they would almost 100% of the time be together. They were, flight was great and we will use them again

I booked a flight for a friend thru AirTran on line and was able to pick seats and do check-in on line. No problem

I regularly fly airtran between Phila. and Boston. Seats are cheap(currently $39 one way) If you purchase on line you cannot get assigned seating at time of purchase. However within 24 hours of flight you can check in online and at that time can choose your seat and print out your ticket.
