For what you paid, you could buy 5 or 6 weeks of 2 BR platinum timeshare in a top of the line system like Marriott, etc. I don't place that much value in the points. My goal is to build an "all-star" timeshare portfolio by the time I retire that will allow me to spend most of the winter at 3 or 4 very nice locations and do it for $100,000 or less.IP: Logged |

After many many hours of staring at spreadsheets figuring out different usage scenarios, cost-benefit analysis, etc.. I decided to go with with the developer purchase (2BR EY + 2BR EOY) at Maui. I studied the prices at Kierland and compared them to Maui but I concluded that I should follow the advice of most people on this board. ALWAYS buy into a location where I would love to visit. Kierland would just be a purchase for the HOPES of trading into beach destinations. Resell was out of the question. For my 2BR EOY, I am getting that at a 20% discount because I am purchasing that in addition to the 2BR EY. For the 2BR EY, I compared the price savings over the long term vs. buying from resell. The 10k difference (between resell and developer) is not that much down the road and I firmly believe in the added convenience of StarPoints. Mariott was not considered because I am a fan of Starwood/Westin hotels and resorts. There are a bunch of other reasons too but I outlined my main decision points. I feel very confident about my purchase and will look forward to actively participate in the TUG community. Thank you EVERYONE who offered opinions and advice. I valued each one and they helped me tremendously. ALOHA!

Congratulations on your decision. It is nice to have another SVO member on the BBS. What is great about TUG is that you will get all sorts of opinions, and answers to questions that you haven't even come up with. I believe that you made a fine decision. Ultimately, you are the one that will be enjoying it, and you can't put a dollar amount on great memories. IP: Logged |
