We own a 2BR and a 1BR timeshare week at two different S.A. gold crown resorts that are reputed to be of superb quality. During the past two years we have exchanged these S.A. weeks through RCI for some very fine resorts in Hawaii. Our 2006 S.A. weeks were recently spacebanked with RCI. They do not pull diddly. I mean, nothing we would stay in, nowhere, certainly nothing in Hawaii (not even one of those high-rise studios on Oahu). Is S.A. finished? IP: Logged |

Is S.A. finished? That is also my question.I am frustrated with what I am getting when I search. I can getting some decent, not great, trades during shoulder season, but absolutely nothing in Hawaii. IP: Logged |

I traded Mt Amanzi(just the other day) for a 2bedroom at Pahio Kauai Beach Villas. The funny thing is, I want 2 more weeks and they were sitting online but I could not pull them using another MA week. It's (not so) funny that today I can pull them but tomorrow I can't! I phoned RCI 3 times and the guides would (could)not confirm it for me. It makes me wonder what goes on behind the scene at RCI? Is it a computer program problem or what? I'm confident that later on, hopefully sooner than later I will be able to get what I want. ------------------ Greg IP: Logged |

I find the same thing with SA weeks--one time you see the great trades, next time you don't, next time you do and so it goes.Dottie IP: Logged |

I believe what you are seeing is a trade threshold. One minute there are not enough banked weeks at a particular resort for you to see them, the required trade power is too high. Then a new deposit or two, the trade power required to get them drops, and you are able to confirm it. ------------------ Jim IP: Logged |

JimThe thing is, there was a bulk deposit of Pahio's and there were still lots of weeks available. Now the number of weeks has dwindled to about nothing and I guess I will have to wait for the next bulk deposit. In the mean while, I will conduct an ongoing search watching diligently with my other weeks for what I want to show up. ------------------ Greg IP: Logged |

Did you have Money on Deposit? I noticed when I looked on the RCI site without money on deposit I could not see anything. Once I deposited money I could see almost what I saw last year. THat may help...T4F ------------------ Worldmark,Sudwala IP: Logged |

T4F, now that's an interesting observation. Haven't heard that one before. From my experience, I've had money in deposit for over a year, but haven't seen much, anyway. Edited in fairness to add I look for pretty hard-to-get locations in peak summer/spring break times: HI, Caribbean, Keys, PNW. But, I have noticed a difference in the past two years...seems most of it kicked in after the notorious Manhattan Club grabbing/renting. So far we've done 3 nice trades into great USA timeshares using our dinky little SA week. Two we've already gone to -- 2003 & 2005 -- & the 3rd is booked for later in 2005. Plus, we have 1 more SA week banked for future exchange. If that's all we ever get out of our SA week, we've clearly broken even (or better) on everything we paid for it -- purchase price, yearly levies, RCI membership, & RCI exchange fees. Anything further we get will be gravy. One time after a timeshare sales tour in Florida, we not only did not buy but mentioned getting nice USA timeshare exchanges from our SA week. The sales associate said we would never be able to trade into that resort with our SA week. Turns out she was right -- that resort is II & our SA week is RCI. Even so, we've traded into some mighty nice places. Yay SA. -- Alan Cole, McLean (Fairfax County), Virginia, USA.

We've been happy with ours, two trades so far have been EVR in tahoe and Park Royal in Cancun.Neither were at peak times, but we knew the limitations when we bought. Fitz IP: Logged |

Folks, bragging like that will surely dampen the party when you least expect it. I would suggest you use personal email to do your bragging. Trust me. ------------------ The latest reviews can always be found at the Western U.S. Review Index Page. IP: Logged |

I agree with your basic premise Jeff but posts like "Is the party over?" needs some sort of a factual response. I had tried to be as discreet as possible in the manner that I replied but you can go only so far. IP: Logged |

Bragging? Trades to overbuilt areas like Orlando and Williamsburg with lots of excess inventory are not all that hot of trades. There was a time that SA got you into really high demand low availibility areas like London, but that was a long time ago. Supply/demand factors have changed for SA and its trade power is down from what it was then. When I hear that SA got someone into Bermuda in the summer, St. Lucia in the winter, Venice or Paris in summer, London anytime, etc. I would agree that such a trade WOULD be something to brag about (although probably not wise on these boards with ''big brother'' watching). I agree with you Jeff !!! I've seen it happened too many times. I remember awhile back where people were bragging about the way they "worked around" some II's restrictions... "Big Brother" (aka: II) slammed that loop-hole shut ! [This message has been edited by DougKaya (edited 02-20-2005).] IP: Logged |

Is a South African timeshare deposit considered a loop-hole? I thought it was just a regular timeshare week for exchange within the system & according to the rules -- just like Las Vegas, Branson, Cancun, Tahoe, Aruba, etc., only cheaper. I like getting a good deal but not by cheating. Am I missing something? -- Alan Cole, McLean (Fairfax County), Virginia, USA.

That is exactly the sort of thing Doug and I were referring to. If you want it to go away, just make a lot of noise about it and sure enough it will disappear. quote: Originally posted by AwayWeGo: Is a South African timeshare deposit considered a loop-hole? I could understand that warning better if it weren't for the fact that TUG itself is the original source for the basic information lots of folks read about getting advantageous timeshare exchanges by depositing SA timeshare weeks. Check out: http://www.timeshare-users-group.com/tugdb/tradepwr/7693.html How may timeshare folks, TUG & otherwise, would have caught on without seeing that? Not me. Anybody else? Should TUG erase that page & treat that plus all other information about SA timeshare exchanges as hush-hush? I'm not trying to be snide here -- just trying to understand how come it's safe to post information about the concept of SA timeshare exchanging in the abstract but risky to mention our practical experience with it in the real world. It's got to be 1 way or the other, no? -- Alan Cole, McLean (Fairfax County), Virginia, USA.
