I just checked 'timeshare' on Yahoo. There were only 96 listings and just a few with any bids at all...the highest one was 5 bids. Compared to Ebay there's not much there. Are their rates the same as Ebay...would anyone list there and not with Ebay?

Yahoo auctions are free, but then you sometimes get what you pay for. Yahoo may have some bargains for buyers, but is not the best place to sell.eBay has two timeshare auction sites, one under Real Estate - Timeshare Sales, which has a hefty $50. listing fee that discourages some sellers. Many also sell timeshare under eBay's Everything Else - Travel - Timeshare Rentals category, because the listing fees are more reasonable. Weeks seem to bring higher prices in the Sales category than those weeks offered for sale in the Rentals category. Again, the Rentals category may offer some bargains for buyers, but is not as productive for sellers. [This message has been edited by Carolinian (edited 12-28-2000).]

Yes, eBay does have quite a bit more traffic than Yahoo. But while eBay charges to list and also a final value fee for a winning auction, Yahoo does not charge these fees. I have used both services and will continue to do so. It's possible that many of the bidders cross over to each service, but I believe you will find some on each site that don't look at the other. So running your auction on both may pick up some additional interested parties. Since Yahoo is free, there's really no risk. ------------------ Ken Hodl http://mexicondo.com

I stopped looking on Yahoo when they asked for credit card information from prospective buyers. Kathy

Yahoo is fine if you have some time to kill, but as for getting results, they s*ck. Ebay gets FAR more traffic and yields much better results. Kevin J.

Has anyone actually bought or sold a timeshare unit on either EBay or Yahoo? How are the prices - are they reasonable or very cheap? Since I am going to be a seller, I don't want to take a huge loss and won't bother to use the auction if that's how the prices go. I did list a Platinum week at Marriott Mountainside for rent and got only a couple of ridiculously low bids (like $50) that didn't come anywhere near the minimum I set. What is the best way to sell a timeshare?

If Yahoo timeshare listings are free how do they make money...I guess that's shown in their recent stock price! For that matter, Ebay isn't doing much better on the market! lol

I list on both ebay and yahoo. I use yahoo to "test the waters" to try to determine the value of the timeshare. Ebay gets more traffic, but both will do the trick if your timeshare is priced right. This time of the year, there are very few buyers. If you are looking to get a "fair price" for your timeshare, stay away from the auctions. Most timeshares sold on auction sell for a hugh discount from origonal prices, so it is mostly a "buyers Market" on ebay and yahoo. This is the time to buy a timeshare. Prices go up as the spring and summer approach and more people start thinking about vacations and timeshares.

I have bought on both ebay and yahoo. The prices I have paid have ranged from $460 for an Austrailian red studio to $1260 for a 2-bedroon SA red Gold Crown. I haven't bought any super traders, but I bought half to use and half to trade (8 total). I would like to have a really good trader, just for the comparison to the others but so far I have many to trade for where I want to go when, so I quess that is all that matters. Good Luck & Happy New Year

ttt-I disagree. I have seen many quality timeshares sell on the auctions for more than they are really worth. Many of the timeshares on the auction are virtually worthless, as the the bidding shows.------------------ in 1555, Nostradamus wrote: Come the millennium, month 12, In the home of greatest power, The village idiot will come forth To be acclaimed the leader (unsubstantiated interpretation of the quatrains)

I just received an email that the Riverside County Tax Collector is once again going to offer several tax delinquent timeshare properties for auction on Yahoo. Sometimes you can find a bargain here since there is no need for title insurance nor are there any closing costs. The tax sale also frees up the title for all prior maintenance fees and other obligations. Its something to think about but dont bid early, hang back and bid late. Bidding early just drives up the price.------------------ Big Bill

Hi, I read with interest your comment on sales conducted by Riverside County tres. I am looking at one right now for Desert Breeze in Palm Desert and have not been able to get much info from Riverside County or Desert Breeze people. Have you bought a timeshare this way and were you happy with it? Any info at all would be appreciated! Thank You!
