As I watch watching a video from the 80s recently of Kauai and the Napali coast, it showed on the video the house used in the movie Thorn Birds for the beach segment and I believe it was available for rent at one time. Does anyone have any knowledge of this....?? It certainly is an exquisite location and totally private. Any suggestions on how to find out? Thanks.

Note that this listing does not claim to be the house in Thornbirds, only just located on the beach featured in Thornbirds. I suspect it is a wing of somebody's beach house residence that they rent out. There are several large rental agencies specializing in North Shore Rentals, among them: Cequis, Kauai (formerly Anini Beach Rental Properties) Hanalei Vacations You'll find a few other resources listed in the Hawaii section of my Getaways travel page. ------------------ Doug Wilson, "The Makai Guy" -- BBS Administrator / TUG Area Rep, Hawaii makaiguy@iname.com -- You might enjoy a visit to my North Shore Kauai website [This message has been edited by Makai Guy (edited 01-08-2002).]

You could be right as far as that property not being the actual Thornbird property but one "on the beach". I did receive an email back from Anini Beach Cottages (email cottage@aloha.net) and Samantha told me "unfortunately, this home no longer exists. The property was never a vacation rental - it was in State Park lands - and unfortunately, burnt down several years ago". Samantha's company, from what I can gather from her email, is a part of Anini Aloha Properties, Inc (http://www.aninialoha.com) as well as Anini Beach Cottages (http://www.aloha/net~cottage/). So there you have it. We can learn something new! It sure looked like a beautiful property to rent, that's for sure. Quiet, totally secluded and private, and romantic, certainly!
