Hi everyone,Friends of ours asked me to review the contract of sale for a resale at Disney. The resale agent is a place called Timeshares By Resale and the broker is Shontell Crawford. Does anyone have any experience with them, good or bad, that I can pass along to my friends? I will check the license out with FLA, but I want to know if anyone has experience dealing with them. Thanks! IP: Logged |

I just used Shontell to purchase my resale for Saratoga Springs. She was great and the settlement went very smooth. I was able to print all my closing documents from my computer, signed it and sent it in. I was very happy with her and the settlement agent.IP: Logged |

Shontell is very reputable, one of the "Big Three" DVC resellers -- the other two are The Timeshare Store and A Timeshare Broker. She used to work at The Timeshare Store; they must not have parted on good terms because her name and her company's name cannot be mentioned on the DIS DVC Boards (because The Timeshare Store is the sponsor of the boards). Thanks! I will pass along the information!Liubruin, I think I know what you are referring to. I was researching on the DIS boards myself and saw a post where someone referred to buying resale from someone who cannot be mentioned on the boards. I was very curious as to whom they were referring. Thanks for the info! And for anyone else who might view this thread, I did check out Shontell with the State of FLA and she has a valid Broker's license and no official complaints that I could find. IP: Logged |

I purchased a resale DVC contract thru Shontell about 2 years ago, and was very satisfied with the process. Good customer service and good follow up after the sale.ralphd IP: Logged |

I think it is just a matter of who who pays to have their name used on the forum as the sponsor. When I purchased thru Shontell, she had one of the Timeshare Store salespersons call me with their inventory, to see if they had something that interested us. Of course, they could have run into a later conflict with a customer. I would definitely use Shontell again. ralphd

I know Shontell from various Disney meets. She is very nice and very personable. HOWEVER like all resellers of DVC timeshares her profit margin is very high and this takes a big chunk out of the bottom line for a seller. I am trying to sell my Disney propertyon my own just to keep some money for myself.------------------ Yep, I'm a Newbie! IP: Logged |

I want to preface by saying that I'm trying to be honest, not negative.Shontell and I have had our differences on a specific subject that we both feel strongly about but don't agree. That being said, I believe she is honest and reputable and would not hesitate for a second to use her as a broker. I have recommended her to others on numerous occasions and felt comfortable doing so. And before anyone asks, the item of disagreement is this. DVC charges maint fees on a calendar year basis. Shontell, and many of the others that specialize in DVC, believe if you get the points you should pay the fees. The problem is that this years points cover Jan to Dec and not the upcoming Use Year. The end effect is you can easily wind up paying double fees on some points if you adhere to this interpretation. But like anything else you can offer what you want and should look at the big picture and Shontell takes the line most brokers do. ------------------ Dean My Home Page IP: Logged |

I also had a positive experience with Shontell. I made an offer on a DVC package, but realized the next day that it wouldn't meet my needs. I asked her if I could back out, and she said yes and was very nice about it. quote: Originally posted by Dean: ... Let me make sure I understand what you are saying, Dean. If a DVC contract gets, say, its 2005 points allotment in December, and none of those 2005 points have been used up by borrowing, then Shontell expects the buyer to pay the entire year's dues (MF) on those points, correct? I can see why you object to this, since people who buy directly from Disney would pay only 1/12th of the annual dues (one month's worth.) Still, I think pretty much all DVC resale brokers calculate the dues the way Shontell does. IP: Logged |

You understand correctly. Of course it's all negotiable but it is the general approach of most of the resale agents that you pay the full maint fees even if you get a Dec use year with all points but no other points during the year or banked points. DVC clearly states the dues are for the calendar year thus in your example, you'd be overpaying by 11/12 of the yearly amount. IMO that can be a make or break issue for many DVC resales. Again, let me be clear, Shontell is by no means alone in this approach. She is simply the one in question and the one I've had direct and strong conversations with in this area. We have reconciled any differences and I think are strong acquaintances, I simply don't know her well enough to know if she's a friend or not. I think it comes from the weeks approach of if you get the week you pay the fees. But it is something Shontell believes is the right approach, we simply disagree on our understanding of the FACTS. Thus for that reason and the fact I feel she's an honest and straight forward broker as well as gives good service, i would not hesitate to direct one to her. My goal is to pass on the info as I know and interpret it and spell out my opinion as best I can. Any one reading it can take it for what it's worth or ignore it completely.
