I am really interested in going to Ocho Cascades in Puerto Vallarta. I have read a bit about it and it sounds fantastic. I have some concerns and wondering what people think? Due to the open-air concept –what time of the year is best to go? How serious is the mosquitoes issue? Do you need to rent a car? How nice is the beach? How much does the chef service cost? Any other negitives besides the stairs? Thanks for the advice.

This is a small, very desirable resort. I don't think many people are ever able to exchange into it. Maybe if you get lucky off-season. I'd love to go myself but don't hold out too much hope

I own two weeks annually, one in June and one in December. I directly exchanged to initially visit Ocho Cascadas in late May and we loved it so much that we purchased two resale weeks upon our return. I believe that the "best months" are November - March from a more temperate and less humid weather perspective. July and August are the rainiest months, to my knowledge. We always use the cabs so I can't speak to the ease of car rentals. We haven't had problems with mosquitoes but we sleep with the mosquito net around the bed. The staff does an excellent job of maintaining the beauty of the resort. We infrequently visit the beach and instead stay in the pool within the room. The walk back to the resort from the beach has a steep hill to climb. I believe that there is one unit that has a hot tub instead of a pool. I'm not sure if it is the same room but one of the lowest level rooms does not have a great view due to a home blocking the view from across the street. Most rooms have a breath-taking view.

We regularly use the chef service and in room masseuse options while there. There is a minimal chef fee and then you are charged for the cost of the groceries to make the meal. Some of the chefs leave the leftovers for you to enjoy on ensuing days. The fee may have been $20-30 (no matter the group size) plus the cost of groceries but I can't swear to this detail. Someone with more familiarity re: the base cost may reply. I recall being surprised at the end of the week with how cheap the meals were for a gourmet preparation.

It reverts back to the architect's wife. She hasn't made an announcement about what she will be doing with it yet.
