A few months ago a Tugger posted they were denied bicycle access onto Sea Pines Plantation, HHI and were not allowed to pay the $5.00 guest entry fee since the group was riding bicycles and were not in automobiles. There were a number of replies on the thread, including one of my own saying that on one of our previous visits a few years ago to HHI, we were able to pay the $5.00 guest entry fee and ride our bicycles onto Sea Pines Plantation. Some of the other replies said they also were able to ride their bikes onto Sea Pines. Conversely, other replies mentioned being denied access. We just came home from a week at Swallowtail on Sea Pines (May 13th to 20th, 2005). While there, I asked the gate guard about the Sea Pines Policy regarding bicycle entry onto Sea Pines. He told me that if you are not a Sea Pines Resident or Resort Guest, you cannot ride your bicycle onto Sea Pines and are not allowed to purchase the $5.00 guest pass. As many of you probably know, if you are staying at Marriott Grande Ocean, which is near the Sea Pines back gate, but off the plantation, you can get a pass from Marriott GO guest services that allows bicycle access onto SeaPines without having to pay the $5.00 fee. There is also another pass that allows Auto access onto Sea Pines without having to pay the $5.00 fee. Personally, I don't understand the Sea Pines policy of not allowing nonmember/nonguest bikes onto the plantation. It's certainly not an enlightened policy. Richard IP: Logged |

I remember that thread. I posted that we had been able to go onto Sea Pines with our bikes. We were there the first week of May, staying off-site and attempted to go in on our bikes. It was a disappointment to find out that we could only get a pass to drive in, which we did. But riding bikes on the bike paths is one of our favorite things to do in Hilton Head. Man, what a bummer!IP: Logged |

When we stayed in Sea Pines, we kept the guest pass in our car and flashed it to the guards on our way in. I would hate to think we could have ridden our bikes out of Sea Pines and not been allowed back in. Who would think to retrieve the pass from their car efore departing on a bike trip? ------------------ Marna IP: Logged |

Let me clarify - if you stay at Marriott Grande Ocean, you can get a Sea Pines pass for both car and bikes, correct? Otherwise you have to stay in Sea Pines to ride bikes in Sea Pines, correct?IP: Logged |

We were there last Fall, and there is a number posted as you leave Sea Pines on the bike path that you key in to open the gate when you return. IP: Logged |

My sister stays at Hilton Head at usually Shipyard and told me that we can pay the $5.00 at the 2 gates to drive thru. I believe this is the only way to Harbour Town. They do this all the time they are at HHICorrect me if wrong, never being at HHI. You have to go thru Sea Pines to get to Harbour Town Going June 18 and staying at Sea Crest. Any tuggers around IP: Logged |

That is correct on the gate pass for cars/vans. We took the boat ride to Savannah and back and gave the gate pass to the vendor and they deducted the $5.00 from the ticket prices. You don't need a pass to get out only in for vehicles. IP: Logged |

We are moving to Sun City Hilton Head next fall and plan to use the bike paths in Sea Pines. We'll pay the $5.00 car fee, drive to Harbour Town and unload our fold up bikes and ride til we feel we've had our fill. Fold up bikes are marvelous and have afforded us an opportunity to ride many places we would never have been able to with regular bikes. LindaIP: Logged |

Linda,My wife and I are looking into buying fold-up bikes. I'm curious, what make and model your family decided to buy. Sounds like you're happy with your choice. Thanks Richard IP: Logged |

During high season those Sea Pines bike paths can get pretty crowded. Perhaps the no bike entry rule is meant to control the bike traffic? Like others, I love riding these paths and consider it a perk of staying in the Sea Pines Plantation. Deb IP: Logged |

Deb, have you ever seen any bike paths as beautiful as those at Sea Pines in Hilton Head? I haven't. The whole laid-back feel, coupled with the actual surroundings of mossy-covered oaks and shade and meandering well-constructed paths make those hard to beat. Cutting off from Lighthouse Rd. and heading onto Plantation Dr. toward the stable is my favorite, and maybe least crowded, altho we've never seen any of them crowded. Where else can you run up on a gator sunning along the banks of a lagoon, oblivious to everyone around, or a white crane flying low over the lagoons? Truly awesome sights. Once I got behind a cute blonde, and that wasn't too shabby. But it's hard holding on with one hand and focusing binoculars with the other. Sheesh. Almost ran into that sunning gator. Marty, I think I've ridden all those paths! When we are at Swallowtail, I bike almost every day. Last year I rented a bike with one of those attachments for kids and rode all over Sea Pines with my granddaughter. When I mentioned "crowded", I was thinking of the path on Lighthouse Road to Harbour Town. That stretch does get pretty congested in the summer. I'm sorry to say we won't be at HHI this summer but next year I'll be back for 2, maybe 3 weeks in August. Will we see you then? BTW, I just saw the Stralkas at Ocean Pointe over Memorial weekend. Richard, We bought our fold up bikes about 5 years ago in a place that sells RV equipment. The brand is Dahon and they are the Boardwalk model, single speed. We fold them up, put them in Van and off we go. Have never had any trouble with either of them and would recommend them highly. LindaIP: Logged |

Several sections of HHI are set off into "Plantations" Some are gated, and some charge admission. Sea Pines is one of the Plantations, and its' association requires non residents or non-renters/exchangers to pay $5.00 upon entry.Harbor Town is a small section located on the Sea Pines Plantation. quote: Originally posted by happybaby:
Correct me if wrong, never being at HHI. You have to go thru Sea Pines to get to Harbour Town
