Our spring break and Passover coincide next year, and we are planning to go to Orlando. Does anyone know if there are kosher restaurants in the area that stay open for Passover week? Thanks.IP: Logged |

Here is one page that lists some possible choices. Also, a Google search for kosher, restaurants and Orlando turned up a number of such restaurants and listings of such restaurants in and near Orlando.IP: Logged |

Many of the restaurants & delis in the Broward/ Dade Cty listed on the page provided by Dave were closed the week of Passover. There were a few hotels (In SE Fl) that had KO or UO for the week. I also know that in the past, there were some hotels in Orlando area that were also set for Passover for the week. Most were booked by Chabad groups, and I will ask friends if they have set up for next year yet, (Ashkinazi or Shephardic?) Or no matter? ------------------ Ken K PS: Win a week with your TUG Winning Review submission: Award Week PIX Please click the page numbers as they present different subjects IP: Logged |

This is passed, but will be update for next year. I expect you could stay at this Marriott and ask for the kosher meals. http://www.matzafun.com/disney_passoverprogram.asp ------------------ Ken K PS: Win a week with your TUG Winning Review submission: Award Week PIX Please click the page numbers as they present different subjects IP: Logged |

I'm more of a "no bread" Passover observer but my husband follows the Ashkenazi rules. The matzafun program at the hotels seems really expensive to me. I would like to stay at our timeshare, have breakfast in the unit, pack lunches, and just eat out dinner. Thanks to all for the links. I will have to research further to see which of the restaurants stay open that week.IP: Logged |

The Kosher Style (not orthodox or conservative) restaurants in SE Fl were open. and advertised Passover meals for the week. Probably in Orlando (but somewhat less of them).I think a tugger was able to use the Orlando hotels (and other places) for KP dinners a few years ago. Listed were a Hyatt, and a Hilton. (They both also had Orthodox groups, so I guess one kitchen was set up for that food). And why wouldn't the kitchen serve the food to the requesting public? Maybe tugger Jeff (mishpa) knows. I will try to contact. (My AOL is out again No comments please..I know....Earthlink is soooo much better) ------------------ Ken K PS: Win a week with your TUG Winning Review submission: Award Week PIX Please click the page numbers as they present different subjects IP: Logged |

Kosher food served on a non-Kosher table becomes non-Kosher. Most Jews don't take kashrut to that level, but I'm assuming that if someone is concerned enough to want Glatt Kosher for Passover, then they also will care about where it's eaten. So...that's probably why it's only served on certain surfaces that have been kashered. There is a Lubavitch group that sponsors a seder at one of the local hotels in Orlando, but I assume all the food is brought in and not cooked on premises. It's a huge job to kosher a kitchen for Passover...which is why most kosher restaurants probably just close for the holiday and don't bother with it. If your husband will only eat Glatt, then you may be best off buying your own food and bringing your own cookware. (I know that Vistana will give you a brand new, unopenend cookware set for Passover though...so maybe other resorts will as well.) Sharon IP: Logged |

Sharon, He's not Glatt Kosher, we do not keep separate dishes even at home, but he just does not want to have to deal with bread products anywhere in his vicinity during Passover. Also our kids are pizza and pasta lovers and it would be hard for them to go to a standard restaurant and not be able to order the food they see at other tables. For us, Kosher-style restaurants serving Passover meals would be fine. It's great to hear, though, of the accomodations available for Orthodox travelers in Florida. Our friends who are Orthodox went to France for Passover this year and shipped 10 days worth of food from California to Paris. Talk about traveling light!IP: Logged |
