We have a choice of 3 different resorts in the Sarasota area. It is a special anniversary we are celebrating. Our choices are Longboat Bay Club – Unit 101Calini Beach Club – unassigned unit Little Gull – Unit 15 Our interests are of course the beach, fishing and a sunny pool. We go to Marco Island and Captiva often and stay at South Seas Resort in Captiva and the Eagle's Nest, Charter Club or the Club Regency. They are upscale Gold Crown resorts. What would be your choice and why? Any information will be appreciated. Linda - jeff-linda@usa.net

Good place to start is the reviews. We own at Longboat Bay but it will be our first stay there or in the area. I know Longboat is bayside, beach across the street. They have fishing poles on-site. Can't wait!!! We arrive June 18th.IP: Logged |

I swear this thread had many posts before, did they somehow disappear or am I imagining things?Maddaug, we bought there last year and will not have our first stay until this November. Let me know how you like it. I bought it solely on all the great raves about the place on tug. I have stayed at the hilton before on Longboat and can verify that Longboat Key is a beautiful area. We bought based on reviews also. I will post a review for sure. I look forward to a different kind of beach vacation. We have always gone to Panama City Beach because of easy driving distance. Now it will be a flying trip for sure. I welcome any info someone would like to pass on.A perfect idea would be Jack Johnson playing in concert on the beach. Oh well can't have it all. IP: Logged |

I recommend Longboat Bay Club. Our family stayed there, and it was one of our most enjoyable vacation experiences. We have also stayed at the Hilton on Longboat Key; the area is simply wonderful.IP: Logged |

I am a big fan of Longboat Bay. I also bought it sight unseen on ebay. My favorite place. The staff is wonderful, every unit has a view of the bay (16 units), across the street wonderful clean beach, and the units are very well taken care of. I go the last week of October, November should be great too. For a relaxing, quiet, beautiful place with so many things to do, its great. Read the reviews, they gave me so much information. We are taking another couple with us. They will have their own car. I haven't asked but is there enough parking? One more thing, do the units by chance have coolers to take to the beach? How about a pitcher for ice tea? ThanksIP: Logged |

maddaug,You might want to invest in a folding cooler with wheels. I saw them in the Big Lots ad for this week, but haven't gone over to check the quality. I bought a similar one a couple of years ago for a trip out west. I got it at Kohls on sale. Think it was around $50, but it proved worth every penny. We used it as a carry-on for the flight out. We put in sandwiches and drinks, along with some frozen meats from home for the week (we grow a lot of our own and buy the rest on sale). We used it most days for a picnic lunch in the national parks. On the trip back, we filled it with dirty clothes and checked it. It also folds small enough to just throw in a suitcase without it taking up too much space. Sheila IP: Logged |

Recently spent a week in a 2BR at Four Winds of Longboat Key..it was wonderful.Does anyone kow a good source of resales there? The resale office in the resort has a bunch for sale, but the prices seem high to me. Looking for a bargain!!! ------------------ Susan IP: Logged |

At Longboat Bay; there is parking for the extra car in front of the sales office, it isnt covered but its as close as your space will be. I dont remember there being numbers on the parking slots, so not sure how that is enforced. I dont see many resales for Longboat on ebay. Ive seen 2 for Longboat Bay in the last 2 years. I dont know how this resort trades as I have never traded it. IP: Logged |

About the coolers, no. Proably have something for ice tea. The beach across the street has a sign, no glass. Might want to invest in the cooler. Good idea. IP: Logged |

If your primary interest is in the beach without hesitation I would recommned Siesta Key. It was rated the second best beach in Florida and we have been going there for over twenty years. The Calini Beach looks like a nice place, although we never stayed there. If you want to fish the Captain Jack Marina is about a ten minute drive down RT. 41. You can't go wrong with any of the choices you mentioned. As an aside if you like ice cream I would suggest Kilwins located at St. Armand's Circle. Enjoy your vacation. IP: Logged |

There were more posts on this..but it may have been in a different thread. We also like Longboat Bay Club. Each unit has a dock...and the BBQs are in that back area with the 'do not feed manatees' The sand has had to be replenished due to some storm loss, so it isn't fine white in all areas.....but the residents are happy there's sand. Front of nits face gulf, with no obstructions (you will see gulf water from all the enrances, the small bedroom & kitchen windows. Living room & main bedroom open onto the patio (lanai). These are approx 1600 Sq foot unsold condos they decided to sell as T/S when interest rates were hitting 18% in the early 80's. Built to hurricane specs, it is on pilings, concrete & steel. The cars park under the building. You will take an elevator to even the first floor. Basketball & tennis in the front, pool in back next to docks. Every unit has a patio (lanai) facing Cranes Bay (where the docks are). When we were there, there were small boats...not sure about now. Walk to Publix, small restaurants, church, temple, library, and golf course (not sure if private but open to public. Nice 5 Star by Cunningham. Wasn't 5 Star when Marriott. ------------------ Ken K PS: Win a week with your TUG Winning Review submission: Award Week PIX Please click the page numbers as they present different subjects IP: Logged |
