Anyone stayed there lately. It looked like a really nice resort from the information on II and the Westgate website, although some mixed reviews, so I traded into it for the beginning of May. Been kind of excited about the trip but just read a couple reviews in TS Today, the one in August was great but the one for December has me concerned. Complaints of heavy construction, noise, views of construction trucks and dumpsters not the mountains. Roads not finished and having to haul luggage up the hill as cars couldn't get through. Anyone been there recently? Any suggestions on where to request or where to stay away from if I have any choice? There wasn't any notice of construction going on on II's site when I booked it the middle of January, or I would have chosen someplace else. Now I am getting worried.IP: Logged |

Read the same article and liked the way TS Today wrote it. Same Resort different views. Even the guy who complained about the construction said how nice the people were. I am sure if you call them ahead of time and review your concerns with them they can tell you what to expect when your there. Be sure to talk to someone who is on site and be sure to get their name. It's one of the places I hope to trade into next summer. IP: Logged |

We stayed a week last September. It is not too current but there was quite a bit of construction going on at the time. Our unit was located where there was no noise or disrupted view. It may depend a lot where your unit is located, so as suggested you may want to contact the resort in advance to see if they can locate you away from the construction. There are some fairly steep hills to climb to some units if you walk around the resort. It's not a problem unless you want to walk down toward the entrance to take the trolley into town. That walk back to your unit after a long day of sight-seeing can be a real challange. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the suggestions. I will probably try to contact them in a week or so. Our check in is May 2 so I am not sure how whether it is better to call earlier or closer to the date when they might be in the process of assigning the units. My husband and I can usually go with the flow and we don't have to have top notch luxurious places, but the idea we could be looking out the windows and seeing nothing but construction and hearing nothing but construction noise got me worried. Thin walls and noise between units I read about and am expecting may be an issue, bulldozers, hammers and saws all day we weren't. Would have been different if we traded in forwarned by a notice on II's site, but there wasn't. Wish me luck.IP: Logged |

It worked. I called the resort a couple weeks before our check in to confirm they had the information and then asked about the construction. I mentioned the article in TS Today and that I was really concerned my vacation would be spoiled by construction. The rep I spoke with wasn't aware of the article but admitted there was a lot of construction going on and would be for some time. She admitted there had been a time or two that guests had to get up and move cars as a road was paved as was mentioned in the article. As I had a two bedroom booked most of them were not right on top of the construction but she would make an note that we were requesting a unit as far away from the construction as possible (which would be higher up the mountain.)When we checked in I noticed the remark on their paperwork and we were assigned a unit where there was no construction going on at all around us. It was wonderful. For anyone that knows the resort we were high up on the hill on the road that is the first left past the swimming pool unit 171C. Right before the gate for the road that leads back to the stables, which were closed because of the construction. Actually there was no constuction the lenght of that road although there was some at the end of the road where it branches to the left at the stable gate. Most of the construction pretty heavy construciton is for the waterpark area near the entrance and up the roads to the right. they said they will be adding about 3,000 more units when they are done. It was a bit of a drive from the entrance and we were the whole top or third floor so had two flights of steps to climb which was a small price to pay for the fact we had no one over our heads to worry about making noise or on the sides, or construction and a nice view out the deck looking down over the hill and the stream on the other side of the street. The unit was very clean, kitchen well supplied, nicely decorated. Liked the fireplace. Nice jacuzzi garden but in the bedroom. Although it was just the two of us I had booked a two bedroom in case we had anyone else coming with us. Rooms were a touch on the small side but this I believe after seeing the one bedroom models was because it was a two bedroom. The one bedroom delux models we saw had more spacious living room, kitchen and bedroom and bath area which were probably lost to the second bedroom. There was a one bedroom model that was not spacious and could feel a bit confining if you had a lot of bad weather and had to spend a lot of time in there. And no we didn't do a sales tour. I think we were being set up for one, when we were shown to our unit by one of their staff they book you for a maintence survey before you leave. It sounded a bit suspicious so I made the comment that I hoped it wasn't a sales pitch as we already had three timeshare and that we only buy resale. He claimed it wasn't but when we went at the scheduled time two days before our departure I remined him againt that all our timeshares were bought resale. I could tell from the questions, most of which didn't have a thing to do with maintence of the unit or what we liked about he resort but were similar to the intro questions that are asked at the sales demos that if it wasn't going to be a sales pitch it would be a lead into scheduling one, but he went quickly and even seemed to skip over some of the ones I noticed on his page and we were done and out of there in 15 minutes. I asked about the models not that we were wanting to buy just curious and he said we could go over and look at them on our own which we did. We didn't really use any facilities at the resort, but did attend the chicken and bluegrass music one evening and the wine and cheese party another and they were nice. I will try to complete a better review when I get a chance but overall I would rate it about a 9. IP: Logged |

Thanks Sharon. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Do you have any idea when the construction will be done? Look forward to any info you can give or future review you may write.------------------ anne IP: Logged |
