We are planning a trip to either Kauai or Oahu in January 2005. Which resorts have the best kids activities, kids pools, or playgrounds etc? My kids will be 2 and 6. Any advice would be appreciated.IP: Logged |

My family visited Kauai last April and we had a 7, 5, & 15 mos. old. We stayed at Lawai Beach Resort and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We brought my cousin along to help out with the little one so we were able to do alot more with the older two (irrigation tubing, boogie boarding, mini golf, etc.) but just hanging out at Poipu Beach was awesome. The Embassy had a good pool that would work for both a 2yo & 6yo. and we meant to make it over to Lydgate Park (a supposed awesome playground) but ran out of time. I can't speak for Oahu as we only spent 2 days there on a previous trip for the "Pearl Harbor" sight seeing. Not alot of information for you, but I thought I'd share a bit of my info....MissTins IP: Logged |

I second the motion for Lawai Beach. The Travel Channel recently rated Poipu Beach the best "family beach" in the world. However, when we were at Lawai Beach I saw no evidence that the resort had any organized activities for toddlers. (I imagine that such would be rare at a timeshare resort, although the RCI guide lists some Hawaiian resorts that offer "child care".) IP: Logged |

Just visited the Embassy Poipu Resort in December. We had my two year old niece with us and she loved the pool. It has a gradual slope and a childrens area that is very shallow. We saw several kids enjoying this pool, I believe the deepest end of the pool was only about 4 feet or so. Very kid-friendly. They have some childrens activities as well, such as Lei-making and hula lessons.

Ditto the Embassy for your little ones. Even tho we like Lawai Beach better, I was impressed with how well the Embassy swimming pool with its sand beach was designed for the little kids. There is a snack bar right there, and plenty of beach chairs. The staff is very accommodating and I liked Embassy MUCH more than I'd expected, considering we used to own at Lawai Beach and are somewhat prejudiced in its favor.------------------ Our new endeavor IP: Logged |

We were at the Embassy Kauai Poipu last Thanksgiving. While the pool is set-up in a great way for kids....It is way too cold at that time as they do not heat it. The resort pool is usually one of the highlights of any vacation for our six year old daughter but after the first day in their freezing pool, she did not want to go after that. I imagine in January it will be just as cold.During a previous summer at the Marriott Kauai in Lihue pool temperature was not an issue but am not sure if they heat it during the "cooler" months. The pool at the new Marriott in Poipu was warmer than the Embassy pool too. We ended up down at the Hyatt where the pool is heated and absolutely fantastic. Our daughter loved it there. She also loved the pools at the Hilton Waikiloa which is also heated. However neither of these are timeshares. I was told by the salesman at the Embassy that one of the only timeshares that heats its pool is the Kauai Beachboy. IP: Logged |
