I have privately negotiated a deal for a week at the Maui Schooner and would appreciate a recommendation for a closing agency that someone has had a good recent experience with.Is it a good idea to insist on a Hawaii agency or can any closing agency do the job? Mahalo, Sterling IP: Logged |

I used Guardian Escrow Services in Honolulu (1808) 951-6991, forget the price but they did a good job, and were pretty quick. Others sub it out to someone in Hawaii I believe.Chicago used their California office and screwed it up. Had me selling the unit I bought back to the person I was buying from!!! I used two different Escrow because of the sales, Private & EBay IP: Logged |

Sterling, We have been thinking of buying at the Maui Schooner too. Did you buy a 1 or 2 BR? Bldg A or B? Do you mind saying what you paid? I think TPI sells them for about $6000 (the 1BR units). Thanks, Phil

I'm using Island Title now for a transaction and they have been excellent with customer service and the transaction seems to be moving quickly. They've quoted a maximum of $750 including title insurance. Ask for Jerome or Patricia.I called 4 Hawaii escrow and title companies before we chose Island Title. Although Island Title is expensive, our experience so far is excellent. I've used Guardian in the past and the transaction took months. I'm using Timeshare Transfer Company currently for another transaction, and it is taking way longer than it should...this could be because of the hurricane problems in Florida. When I bought our time at the Maui Schooner, I purchased it through the TriWest auction and I believe the escrow/title company was located in Southern California but I cannot remember the name of it. I do remember it was a slow process. We have definitely enjoyed our vacations at the Maui Schooner! It is an older resort, but maintained and managed in an excellent manner! ------------------ luana IP: Logged |

Phil: Who is TPI? Haven't heard a thing since I told the guy I would insist on using an escrow agency to dispurse funds when the deed has been recorded rather than sending the down payment via pay pal. (Overnight mail with a certified check was not good enough)So it looks like I am still in the market even though it does not appear to be financially sensible to buy a time share for thousands, pay 600-800 a year in maintenance fees, and 10 years from now have the TS depreciate by 50%. Maui Schooner rents for about $1000/wk Sterling IP: Logged |

Trading Places manages this resort and they also sell resale units. I just sold a 1 bedroom unit last month for around $4500, and it seemed that they had the same pricing. Sterling, I don't think you will be seeing any depreciation on a resale Hawaii week, infact if purchased now ( at the right price of course) they should continue to appreciate in value. The bottom to the Hawaiian market seems to have been in the fall/winter of 2002, and since then there has been a fair amount of appreciation. jmho Greg ------------------ We will be at Lawai Beach Resort February 5th through the 26th, 2005 in suite 1308 Alii building, Mahalo IP: Logged |

I second luana's vote for Island Title. I believe the person who completed our transaction was named Melanie or Melinda when we purchased a week at the Lawai Beach Resort. She was fast and efficient. I remember the total costs being somewhere around $550.IP: Logged |

Sterling, did you consider Maui Lea @ Maui Hill at all before purchasing Maui Schooner? Those were two on our list to consider in the Kihei area. Thanks, ChristyIP: Logged |

Phil: The deal fell through. Guy was asking $7400 for 2 br but wanted downpayment via Pay-Pal. Also wanted me to send him a signed contract (seemed backward to me). He didn't like the idea of going through an escrow agency to dispurse funds.Sterling

I wanted something with II and don't think that Maui Lea is affiliated. Still haven't convinced myself buying another timeshare is intelligent when you are in yours 60's. Renting seems more sensible financially.Sterling IP: Logged |

I also used Chicago Title (CTC) in California for a resale which closed in Feb., 2004. By August, the timeshare company had never been notified by CTC that I now owned the week. Furthermore, CTC would not respond to my calls or letters. Thanks to a sympathetic lady at the timeshare company it got straightened out.IP: Logged |

Sterling, If you were paying the fees why would he care? Dope! You should call http://www.tradingplaces.com/ and see what they are selling 1 & 2 BR units for. I called once and it seemed that the 1BR were going for around $6K. I didn't haggle with them though because I didn't want to spend that much. I'm with you on buying HI. The high MF are a detriment. If I can find a low price, like under $4K, I'd buy the Maui Schooner or something on the BI. http://www.triwest-timeshare.com/bluebook/mlslistings.asp?resortid=96740 These folks have a 1BR MS for $4995 (asking) + closing.

I just used timesharetransfer.com, they were great. I think they are former Prodox people, who were also great. Last year I used Chicago transfer. They were about twice as expensive, but it took them twice as long... maybe that's why!IP: Logged |
