We're headed to Paniolo Greens next month. Wondering if there are any units/buildings that we should try to request. Also, is there internet access at the resort?

TIA!

No difference in the units (other than some are handicap accessible). Not sure about internet in the units. We didn't bring our computer. But there is a computer in the check-in office to use (limited time if people are waiting).

I think that there are some units with two bedrooms and a den downstairs, and some that only have two bedrooms. In my review, I mentioned that we stayed in Building C. It was a nice view from the master bedroom over the golf course. I used to have a site map but it's gone missing in our last two moves.

Some of the buildings, and I'm sorry I can't be more specific, would have a view of lava on one side and the parking lot on the other.

If you can get the resort to fax you a copy of their site map, the buildings in line with C are good, with the buildings across the parking lot from them not so good, as far as view. And we enjoyed the extra den, it basically gave my son an extra room and more privacy than the bed chesterfield.

Bev is right. There is a difference in the layout of the 2-bedrooms. When we stayed there a few years ago my mom and aunt had a 2-bedroom that was downstairs with a patio on the ground floor. They just had the 2-bedrooms. We also had a 2-bedroom unit, but it had the extra "den" downstairs, which as I remember also had a bathroom. This worked very well for us because there were 5 of us and one person was sleeping on the pull out couch. The den gave her some extra private space and her own bathroom. As I recall our unit was upstairs and we only had a very small lanai off the master bedroom.

When I checked in, they had several units to choose from. The lady at the check-in office helped me pick one that had a distant ocean view from the front doorstep and a golf view from the master bedroom.

Remember that ground level units are flat, but upstairs units are on two levels. You climb to get to the front door and then climb again to a bedroom. Not bad except for carrying luggage in from the car. The bedrooms, being on third floor, can command a great view.

I got to enjoy the nene on the golf course in the morning. They looked and sounded just like turkeys.

So did anyone find their unit maps? I sure would like to request a specific building since we will be arriving a day late on Christmas Day and am afraid we may get stuck with the unit that everyone else doesn't want.....please help...

Please help with specific unit or building recommendations....thank you....in Kauai now and forgot my notes at home. Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't worry about it, I don't think there are any really "bad" units. They are all pretty nice. So much to do, you probably won't spend a great deal of time there anyway.

We were really happy with building C, as I mentioned. We were in one of the "upper" units, the ones with two bedrooms upstairs and a den downstairs. Very nice golf course view out of the master bedroom and living room windows.

Sorry I can't find the resort map, so I don't remember the building we were in. H or K or something in that range. When we checked in, we asked for a unit with a sunset view and this was the ideal building. Nothing but open land between us and the Waikoloa resorts with the ocean beyond. Nice sunsets every evening. Saw herds of wild goats wandering through the bushes. Not the classic, lush, tropical Hawaiian view, but nice. It seemed like many of the units in the building were occupied by residents rather than timesharers. Ours was an upper unit - 2 stories, and as big as any timeshare we've ever occupied. We went to the Kahua Ranch evening barbecue sponsored by the resort and enjoyed it a lot. Have a great time!

Sounds like David was on the opposite side of the parking lot to where we were. Basically, I think that if you want to look at the golf course, ask for building C. If you want to look at a distant ocean view with lots of lava directly in front of you, ask for a "sunset view." I'm not saying one is better than the other, just that those are your choices.

Hi, Below is an email I received from the resort when I was inquiring about units. Perhaps it will help.

Diane

Thank you for contacting us here at Shell Vacations Club. All of our
units at the Paniolo Greens are identical.
they only have two bathrooms. They all have a master bath connected to
the master bedroom and another bathroom in the upstairs hallway. If you
wish to view the floor plan of every unit, please check out our website
at http://shellvacationsclub.com/GetResortDirectoryScreen.event and
select the Paniolo Greens. Please let me know if you have any other
questions.

Happy Holidays,
Graeme Golucki

What's interesting is that only one floorplan is provided on the website. I know there are two different two-bedroom floorplans because I've seen them.

I can't believe that SHELL would post that all units are the same. There are three different layouts. The downstairs units are the same ... with the living area and kitchen on one side and the two bedrooms and bathrooms on the other. The upstairs units have two different layouts. The upstairs units are all two stories ... with the living area and kitchen downstairs and the two bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs. However, I'm pretty sure that it is the corner units (not the ones in the center of the building) that have a third room. This third room is not much to speak of ... it has a chair and a TV ... and I suppose you could rent a cot ... but it can be a getaway room to read. I've stayed in all three units. The downstairs should definitely be the choice of those who don't like to climb stairs to go to the bathroom.

As for the layout of the comples ... A, B, C, D, E, F, G & H all have the golfcourse beyond the patio ... or out the Master Bedroom Window. I'm pretty sure that I, J, K and L look toward the ocean (all be it from a distance). SHELL keeps all resorts immaculate. I'm sure if you have additional questions ... you could email them at PGRES@ALOHA.NET ... they aren't the fastest to respond ... but they always get back to you! That way you're dealing with Paniolo direct and not SHELL which I believe is headquartered in AZ and might not know the layouts.

It's been awhile since we stayed at Paniolo Greens, but I could have sworn there was a small bathroom downstairs off the little sitting room. The reason I think this is because we were staying in one of those units with 5 people. Steve and I took one of the upstairs bedrooms and our girls took the second. The aupair who was traveling with us was sleeping on the fold out couch downstairs, but the little sitting room gave her some privacy as well (I think there might have even been a tv in there). And I could have sworn there was a bathroom as I don't remember her having to share the bathrooms upstairs.

We stayed there in August '03, did not have an end unit, had 2 BR and 2 bath up, and a small sitting room with a third bath down. Perhaps the unit I stayed in is not managed by SVC, as I previously stated that I thought that neighbors were residents rather than timesharers.

Thank you everyone for your responses and help......trying not to worry about it.....its just when I know we will be a day late and everyone else has had their requests in.....I know how it sometimes goes...been on both ends of that deal....

Will discuss it with the group and call the PG.....and hope for the best....thanks again.

Weather has been fantastic in Kauai.....north shore has only had sprinkles yesterday (it was raining hard in the east)....otherwise sunny and few clouds even over the mountains. The surf has been huge about every other day 20 to 50 ft....so we get our beach days in-between.

First time we stayed in north shore.....we love it.....going to have to do it again lol......

Mahalo and Aloha...
