Being a newbie, I have a question. We have 92,500 RCI Points per year and would like to go to Hawaii in 2006. First, how easy/hard is it to get an ocean-view, 1-bed in Kaui in April? When would I have to start trying to reserve? Can I get 2 weeks with that many points? Thanks for the help!!

Log on to RCI Points then go to the directory and look at individual resorts, you can see how many points are required. You should have no problem getting two one bedroom units for that amount of points. I would get them as soon as possible. You can see the earliest you can reserve at the top of the page when you log in.

Remember, if you are going to use a 'Standard Reservation' for a Points resort you can't search & reserve more than 303 days (approx. 10 months)in advance. Here's a neat app. that figures dates into the future & the past: date calculator. If you want to use the 'Weeks Resort Reservation' system you can make reservations up to two years in advance. Look at 'Hawaii' in this RCI generic chart and see how much a 1BR week will 'cost' you in Points on the 'Weeks' side. You could get 3 1BR units for your 90K points, if anything is available on the 'weeks' side.

Kauai has the most t/s units of any Hawaiian Island so you should have no trouble finding something you'll like. Some of the Points resorts do require more than 50,000 points for a 1BR however. Check the particulars on the RCI website-if it's working.
Reserve as soon as possible.
Phil

If you have the points to spare, using them for a "tough" exchange like Hawaii or Europe is not a bad way to go. You should hopefully see availablility if you reserve as soon as the 10 month window hits for the RCI Points resorts. Check the particular resort you are interested in 10 months out periodically to see that units are becoming available regularly. Another advantage of doing this through Points, since you can't reserve more than 10 months ahead, is that you can check airline prices at the same time and decide if it works out. Sometimes people exchange far in advance only to find out later that airfares are much higher than they expected.

Hi

I just reserved a 1 Bd/2 Ba @ Pahio Bali Hai last week for April 7 check in. There were 5 resorts to choose from, including Pahio Kauai Beach Villas. KBV would have the best chance of Ocean View. The KBV were all 2 Bds.

If you go to the RCI.com and pull up the points chart for each resort you will know exactly how many points it will take. The 1 Bed/2 Ba at Bali Hai was 67,000 pts. I believe the KBV 2 Bed. was around 88,0000 pts. You can find availability for less points. I believe the Makai Cottages were around 56,000 for 2 Bd. and even less for the 1 Bd. @ Makai Princeville.

Good Luck!

We have a 1 brm at Lea Casa at Kona on the Big Island the last week of August for 28000 points and the following week we have a studio at Lifetime in Hawaii at the Royal Kuhio in Oahu for 22500 points. Asa there are only two of us these will be large enough for our needs.
