Will the air and water temperatures be suitable for swimming and water sports in the Poipu Beach area in early January, or will it be too cold? Thanks! Greg IP: Logged |

We checked in on January 22nd this year and Poipu beach was excellent for snorkeling. Air temps were around 75-78 every day.IP: Logged |

We were in Poipu this past January from 6th-11th. We were in shorts, tank tops and swimsuits every day. It rained intensely one night. Was a little overcast the next day. Otherwise, it was really nice.IP: Logged |

I guess the question might also be, where are you from? If you're from the desert of Arizona or Florida, maybe not! Northern States? Probably! My dad and brother/family was at Lawai Beach at Christmas last year and hit rain/rain/rain and cool temperatures. It dropped into the low 60's at night which gets pretty cold when you're sleeping "open air" like many of the condos. This was a big deal for my dadbecause he is in his 70's and a Jack-Sprat-Eats-No-Fat-Super-Skinny-wears-flannel-shirts-in-Hawaii-in-July kind of guy. He said that he MUCH preferred Hawaii in the summer because you are almost (?!) guaranteed hot & sunny weather...which is why we go to Hawaii! My brother didn't find it to be a problem, though, but it kept his young children out of the ocean most of the time. On the up side, they found Lawai and Poipu Beach to be swimmable/snorkelable (is that a word?) during the winter months, where as all the north and east shore beaches were very dangerous with HUGE waves. Hope this helps you decide whether it's right for you! IP: Logged |
