Are there any websites that give historical info on ticket prices? Air fare from San Diego is about 720 for end of August. I don't know if fares will drop as the date gets closer. What has been everyone's past experiences? any websites tracking these things?IP: Logged |

$720 from Ca to Lihue seems excessive unless it is first class. $850 from New Orleans to Lihue on American.Sterling

Watch http://hawaiianair.com for their fares. Yes, $720 does seem excessive from San Diego. For April 24 LAX to Kauai, then May 1 to Maui and return thru HNL to LAX May 8 is $1275 (Approx) for 2 adults. LAX to Kauai & return for our nephew April 24-May 1 is $512.00.IP: Logged |

Living in San Diego my entire life and having visited Hawaii many times, I've found that $700 - $800 seems to be the going rate for summer travel to Hawaii - and I've never seen the price drop a few months before I go.San Diegans love Hawaii and the airlines know it. There is only one flight each day with Hawaiian and Aloha to Honolulu (they've just added a Maui flight) and they are generally booked full during the summer (another reason the price never drops). I usually book my flights as early as possible because I know the price won't go down and I want decent seats (plus, I don't want to take the chance that the airline will be booked and I'll have to go to L.A.). On the other hand, fall and spring fares can be pretty decent. Eventually, when my husband retires (he's a school teacher), we'll be able to take advantage of those fares. For now, it's summer travel only :-( IP: Logged |

Yep, fares from the west coast to Hawaii during the summer can easily run $600 - $800.------------------ Luanne IP: Logged |

You might check Aloha Airline flights out of John Wayne Airport (SNA). I just read that they are adding direct flights to Maui. Have no idea of the cost. We usually fly out of LAX and spend the night at Marriott Courtyard and leave our car in their parking lot for 'free' for up to 3 weeks. They have shuttle service to and from the airport. You might price out the lax cost as well.IP: Logged |

The range that's been given seems reasonable for summer airfare. If you're a member of II, you might want to try the II website and see if their fares are more discounted. Another option is to try the tour companies like Hawaii World or Apple Vacations for an air only package. Might be able to still get in the $550-$600 range. ChristyIP: Logged |

You may also want to check flights out of Las Vegas. Hawaiian has had some good specials to and from there.IP: Logged |

cathyb, Does the LAX Courtyard really let you park free for 3 weeks? We 've stayed overnight previously, but never asked. If they do, it might alter our plans later this month. Of course, my car might get a bit messy!IP: Logged |

There are lots of hotels that will let you park for FREE during your trip, if you spend the night before your flight at the hotel. We live about 1 1/2 hours from the closest international airport, so we always do this: http://www.parkstayfly.com/ ------------------ Denise [This message has been edited by dbmMayer (edited 04-12-2005).] IP: Logged |

I booked my flight from Chicago to Maui last April for a vacation in Jan. and Feb. 2005. My seats were in Row 12 for the return trip from Maui to Chicago. On the return trip American Airlines changed my seats to Row 40 (the last window Row) for no reason. American Airlines more or less said sorry but we can do it and we did. They did not, and would not, offer even a free drink along with the sorry. Walt

They only assign seating on the plane until they reach a certain percentage of assigned seating. Everyone else is on first come first served basis, and they have no problem splitting up parties. The fare quote is fairly standard from San Diego. The only other option is to try to book some type of air/car rental package. Sometimes that can provide a break. Sometimes not

If you are not locked into August the airfares are usually lower the first two weeks in June. Many schools are not yet out and people have not started their summer vacations yet.------------------ beach mom IP: Logged |

The park-n-fly program at the El Segundo Courtyard is apparently a very informal one .. you just tell them you want to do it, and they suggest where to park, which is right in front in a well-lit area. It doesn't cost anything extra, and they have never asked me how long I'd be there (went to Australia for 20 days once). Nobody wrote down our license number or anything. I suspect you could do it without even spending the night, but it's such a good deal I wouldn't even think of it.Other hotels have more formal programs and special rates. I've used the Sheraton Four Points. It was about $129 for one night and a week's parking. Another week would have been another $20, I think. Regular parking is usually $12 a day unless it's WAY out.
