I just received this offer from Westin Vacation Services: For $749 for 2 people, we get 6 days & 5 nights accomodations at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa; $75 Resort Certificate redeemable for dining, shopping & spa services within the resort; $185 towards an Avis Rental Car. The only conditions of this offer is that all reservations and inquiries be made to a specific toll-free number, and include the preferred reservation number on the invitation. We can reserve the invitation by paying $400 now, and $349 when room reservations are made. Invitation expires in 15 days. Accomodations are a hotel-type terrace room. Travel must be complete within 18 months. So there is no condition to attend a timeshare presentation. I did call the hotel and inquire about the terrace-type rooms, and found out the room face the parking lot. But other than the view, the room has all the amenities the other rooms have, including the Heavenly Bed and Shower. So what do you all think of this offer? Is the price worth it even thought the rooms don't have a view? I would appreciate your feedback on this. Thanks! IP: Logged |

Lana, If you are going to spend more time on Maui, say another week, or one of the other Islands I'd probably do it. A lot would depend on what the airfare is too. It's a nice resort. Sure beats their 'rack' rate.Phil IP: Logged |

We are planning on spending a week in Kauai, then taking advantage of this offer to extend our vacation another 5 nights. I just thought I'd get some feedback before I went for it. I'm never been to Mauai, so I don't know if this hotel is at a good location, or if there is anything else about it I should know before making a decision.Phil thanks for your advice. IP: Logged |

Lana -- The Westin Maui is right in the middle of Ka`anapali Beach so the location is great! The pool complex at the hotel is quite impressive, but it can also get very crowded. I think it would be a great place to extend your vacation in Paradise. Have a great trip!! Jerry IP: Logged |

We took advantage of the same offer 2 years ago, before I discovered TUG. (That's how we ended up paying $44K for our Ka'anapali TS from the developer!) They do not require a TS presentation to get the pkg., but they will offer you a $100 gift certificate after you get there, if you will do the presentation. When we originally bought, we had a great salesman and it was not high pressure. But when we went back this last summer and did the "owners update" and had a different salesman, it was pretty high pressure and the guy practically told us we were wasting his time, when we didn't buy another unit. So BE CAREFUL! We love the resort, but wish we had bought it resale and saved a lot of $$$ - so don't be tempted to buy from the developer! The Westin Maui is a nice hotel in one of the best locations on Maui. It is on Ka'anapali beach in the middle of a string of resorts, restaurants, condos and an upscale shopping center, all joined by a paved beach path. The grounds are gorgeous and it has a great pool. The only drawback that I see, is that the rooms are very, very small. They are fine for a couple, but would not be too good for a couple and two kids. They are so small they don't even have closets! Only a small amoire that also holds the TV, etc. As far as room location, go online to Starwoods website and apply for a free Starwood Preferred guest card NOW. We did this before we went and they upgraded us from a lower floor parking lot view to a 7th floor golf course view because we had the card, and that was MUCH better. If you get lucky, maybe you will get to stay at the resort, instead of the hotel - that happens sometimes. I think the offer is a GREAT deal as long as you don't buy a TS from the developer. To compare the value of the pkg., go online and find the price of the room and car separately. I think you will find that your pkg. is about half price. If I were you I would forgo the extra gift certificate and not even go to the presentation. I agree with the other poster who said not to just go for 5 nights - 6 days is just not enough and most of the two days you are flying there and back are taken up with travel. I would extend my stay to 10 days or two weeks. When we went, the Westin offered us a special rate to extend our stay, but it wasn't as low as the pkg. However, I am not a big fan of doing two islands in 2 weeks, because of the cost of flying to a second island and the waste of most of a day. You can find more than enough to do on Maui for 10 days or 2 weeks. Email me if you have any questions about the hotel or resort. ------------------ Denise [This message has been edited by dbmMayer (edited 04-12-2005).] IP: Logged |

the Westin rooms are small, if there are 4 of you it will be a squeeze. I have also heard of people being able to upgrade to the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua for a modest fee when reserving the package, if that is more your scene you might ask about it.IP: Logged |

Are you sure you aren't thinking of the Kapalua Bay Hotel that used to be managed by Starwood, but isn't any more? I don't think the Ritz is affiliated with Starwood.

Denise, Hope this make you feel better: we have seen very few weeks there resale, and most of those are still nearly as much as you paid. And it is one of the best resorts on the planet.

I received the Westin Maui hotel offer a few months, declined it,and then received an offer for the Princeville Hotel that was essentially the same. I wasn't really sure whether if it was related to a timeshare presentation or not, the Westin phone rep said no. I declined but thought it was a great deal.IP: Logged |

Thanks for all your feedback. I think we're going to go ahead and make the reservation. It sounds like a good way to extend a 1 week vacation. And Denise, thanks for the tip about the Starwood Preferred card! IP: Logged |

We took advantage of a similar Marriott Maui Ocean Club package in February to extend our stay 5 nights. It was our best accommodation on Maui and we'd do it again in a heartbeat! A friend of ours receive a Marriott offer and then a Westin offer, booked them back to back and spent 10 luxury nights on Maui! The Marriott sales presentation was low key and a pleasant experience. Just remember to buy resale!!! ------------------ luana IP: Logged |

We stayed in a Terrace Room when my kids were 5 & 7. With the extra roll-way bed, we were literally crawling over them to get around the room but hey, your in beautiful Maui, it could be a lot worse. For what you will be paying, it is well worth it and we love the Westin, great hotel and great location...even if you are overlooking a dumpster!------------------ Elyse IP: Logged |
