Hi I am Going to the pahio at the Shearwater in April of 06. I purchase travel books to get a look at the resort from the air, but I was told that they do not review time shares. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I know that the Pahio resort have their own website but its not like looking at their resort from anothers view.
Thank you
Linda

Thank you, but that does not show me what the resort looks like
from the air. How close the resort is to thecliff, what size the resort really is.
Thank you

The resort is made up of three buildings, probably about 36 total units. It is "right on the bluff". Has "excellent" views of the ocean (and whales, if you are there at the "proper" time of the year).

Did you buy The Kauai Revealed guide book? There is an address in it to their website and it has aerial views of most of the resorts. There is also a password in the book that you have to use to get into the website. I think the password is at the top of the accommodations pages.

It does sound like Linda bought the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook. If so, then Shearwater won't be listed in this book because isn't a hotel operated resort. While some timeshares/hotels are listed in this book, Shearwater isn't one of them.

There is a link of the Shearwater property map located in the TUG Reviews. That map is pretty darn accurate. Building One & Three sits right on the edge of the bluff. Building Two sits further back from the cliff, overlooking the pool. While some units have better views than others, you can still see the ocean from all of the Shearwater units.

Here is a link to our Shearwater pictures. Maybe this will help you get a feel for this resort.

Don't know if it will help much, but http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=40.689712,-74.045051&spn=0.004603,0.007060&t=k&hl=en is a satellite map of the Princeville area. Someone who is more familiar with the area might be able to pinpoint Shearwater.

The satellite photos are pretty cool, in any case.

The Shearwater consists of 32 units, 31 are 2 bedroom/2 baths, the previous posts in this thread give a very accurate description of the views, and building layouts.

We stayed at the Shearwater this past November in unit 209. Our unit was so close to the cliff, it almost felt like you could dive off the deck. Did you check out the above Karen G's post and click on the link that she provided? Under the pictures you will find a link, "Resort layout map"...that will show you the exact layout of the resort and you can see just how close it is to the cliff. We exchanged into this resort and a few weeks prior to checking in, I called the Pahio VIP (808-826-8477) and requested this particular unit. The unit you get will depend on the day you check in. You can ask them which units are "assigned" to your day of check in. Our check in day was a Thursday. You can also request an upper or lower floor. Keep in mind, you can requst..but, you might not get your request. It worked for us, but I think it must go according to how many actual owners are checking in on your check in day. They even let us check in early (noonish) because the unit was ready and we had a lot of food that needed refrigeration. We had just checked out of another Pahio resort (KBV). I'm assuming that you have read all the reviews on the reviews board.

While we were there, the pool was too cold to use. (so were all the other Pahio resort pools) and the hot tub was in pretty bad shape. The units are approximately 1300 sq. ft. in size.

Just to revise my post regarding check in days...you can click on Karen G's post above and also find the "Table of Unit Configurations & Check In Days" (located under the pictures). This really helps with any "requests" you might have.

We were there last October and there were lots of people using the pool and hot tub. In our unit, the washer and dryer were just to the right of the kitchen.

You are correct The Shearwater pool is not heated. That is one of the reasons why we stay there during the summer months.

The Pahio at Shearwater has amazing views. My husband still talks about taking a week vacation there and camping out on the balcony for the view for a week. The pool, however, is tiny and not that interesting.

However, you can use the pools at the other Pahio resorts. It's worth the drive down to Pahio at Bali Hai to swim in their pool and hot tub. We stayed for a week at the Bali Hai and really enjoyed the large pool and the hot tub. The hot tub there has a sand bottom. Both the pool and the hot tub use the new Bromination which makes the water practically fresh. We were there a few years ago.

The pool at Shearwater is pretty small. You couldn't lap swim I don't think. The hot tub was dingy and needs resurfaced but who needs a hot tub when you have two jacuzzi's in the unit and one of them is big enough for two? There are many Pahio resorts nearby that you can use their pools at. In fact most of the rec events are held elsewhere. Ask for a second or third floor if possible to avoid ant and cat problems.

If you go to this link "www.wizardpub.com/kauai/krkamahana.html", you will see The Kamahana Buildings in the center, and The Shearwater buildings to the right. Bldg 3 is the 3 story, bldg 2 is just below the pool, bldg 1 is just above the pool, and the clubhouse is to the left of the pool.

When/if you go to the above link, you can also click on the Sealodge and it will show you how close that is to the cliff. The Shearwater is just next door to the Sealodge...so, same views basically.

Hey, good finding, Tony!! That's Shearwater right there in plain view!! We were in Building Three in the section that sticks out the furthest on the second floor. I still think this was THE best unit. Well, except the 3 bedroom penthouse unit above us.

As you can see from this aerial view, all the units have ocean views. Pretty cool, huh?

Yeap, that would be unit 209 that you stayed in.
