We are heading to Maui in 2 weeks. Anyone have any recommendations on good restaurants? I'm not looking for 5 stars or fancy (no coat and tie places), but am also not looking for a shack (unless highly recommended). IP: Logged |

We were on Maui in February. We ate several times at the Aloha Grill next to the Old Lahaina Luau. Actually, they are connected somehow. You eat outdoors. Killer food and wonderful happy-hour. Be sure and give it a try. Nothing fancy and go in swim suit, shorts or whatever!Another local place we liked was over by the airport. It was called DA KITCHEN. We picked it out by the smell! Nice locals spot. IP: Logged |

I've posted this before:DAVID PAUL'S LAHAINA GRILL 127 Lahainaluna Rd. (Front St.) Lahaina (808) 667-5117 SANSEI SEAFOOD RESTAURANT & SUSHI BAR 115 Bay Dr. Kapalua (808) 669-6286 ROY'S KAHANA BAR & GRILL 4405 Honoapiilani Hwy. (bet. Hoohui St. & Hwy. 30) Kahana (808) 669-6999 Kimo's is a good spot for a nice sunset dinner with the family. Ask for a table by the edge of the balcony. Also consider the Hula Grill in Whaler's Village for lunch or happy hour with Hawaiin music. Leilani's (next door to the Hula Grill) is only an okay restaurant but they have a great happy hour with live music too.

Try Pacific'O @ 505 Front Street, the food and the setting are excellent. My wife and I were married in Kapalua in July 2000 and had our wedding dinner there, it was TERRIFIC ! We'll be back on July 9 and can't wait !! Kevin B IP: Logged |

If you like chicken (BBQ style) go find Moose Mcgillicutties (spelling is wrong but you'll find it). Not fancy but the food was so good that the 4 of us couldn't stop licking our fingers. This was 5 years ago but anytime we mention Hawaii Moose is all my 15 year old son talks about. BartIP: Logged |

Oh, oh, Cheesburger in Paradise we felt was the worst burger we ever have had. This just shows how people's tastes differ. We ate there right before it showed up in Sunset Magazine as one of the top ten places for a burger. My wife, myself, and each of my children could not stand it. It either made bad burgers or we eat good ones in the San Jose area of California. I have to admit though, Sunset rated it highly. It must be us. Now you have to eat there for sure so we get your opinion. BartIP: Logged |

I also hated Cheeseburger in Paradise. I'd 2nd Moose Mcgillicuddy's, for their fried shrimp. I thought it was much better than Bubba Gump's for about 20% less. They also have a good happy hour.Regards. Joe IP: Logged |

For breakfast try the Gazebo Restaurant at the Napili Shores Resort in Napili (5315 Lower Honoapiilani Rd). They serve breakfast and lunch from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm daily and the view cannot be beat.Mama's Fish House (don't let the name fool you) just past Paia. Expensive but the great food, decor, flower arrangements and views are worth it. ------------------ Barb IP: Logged |

These are some very good recommendations. I've eaten at them all (except for the Gazebo and liked them all except for Bubba Gumps. I think Mama's Fish House is the best of this group, edging out David Pauls and Roys, but these three are pretty expensive. For a good meal at a decent price, you can't beat Kimo's, but be sure to get there when they open if you want a great sunset view, and be sure to save some room for the hula pie. I agree that Aloha mixed grill is a terrific value with good food and a great view. Moose Mcgillicuddy's is also reasonable and good. Maui tacos is cheap and good also.------------------ Timesharing for 25 years and still learning. IP: Logged |

Been to Cheeseburger in Paradise mulitple times and never had a bad burger. They aren't the best by a long shot, but still decent. Generally speaking, Maui isn't the best place to go if your looking for top notch burgers. The location is fabulous, however. Also in Lahaina, we like Kimo's and the Lahaina Fish Company. If you want pizza, BJ's is good enough. Like the burgers, Maui isn't a pizza Mecca, but still pretty decent thick crust pizza. Had a couple of very good chicken skewers from KahunaKabobs, which is a small place located in one of the little shopping courtyards on Front Street. Its listed in Maui Revealed. Da Kitchen in Kihei was good also, particularly on the value side. Large portion plate lunches. We had a good meal at Ma'alea on the Waterfront. Sub Paradise is a great place to get a sandwich to take with you up to Haleakala or on the Road to Hana. Its on E South Dairy Road in Kahului. If you are coming from the Lahaina area, you drive right by it. IP: Logged |

Down in the Wailea/Kihei area there is Tommy Bahama's and Ruths' Chris Steak House. For great views and decent but pricey Italian food, there is Sarrento's. Someone mentioned Roy's; there is also a Roy's in Kihei. Nick's Fish Market @ the Fairmont has a wonderful atmosphere w/outdoor seating (it's definitely on the high price end, but worth a try). If I had to choose one high end dinner, it would definitely be Mama's Fish House! A trip to Maui is not complete without a visit to Mama's. Have a great time! We'll be there in July and I can't wait! Alexanders fish and chips in Kihei is reasonable and very good. Breakfast at the clubhouse at the Wailea Emerald (SeaHorse?) is really nice also.Just got back from Maui yesterday - I wanna go back tmorrow!
