I think the Waiohai is the best -- great facilities and among the best locations on the island. IP: Logged |

Ah...the eternal debate between Poipu and Princeville. I love the Princeville area, so my vote goes to Shearwater.IP: Logged |

Well, if it were me making the decision.....I would keep Maui. Having said that, we spent 2 weeks on Kauai this past Nov/Dec. We spent the first week in Poipu at the Embassy and the second week at the Shearwater in Princeville. OF those 2, we much preferred the Embassy in Poipu. At this point, we have no desire to return to Kauai for a very long time. We really do prefer Maui. Unfortunately when we were there, it rained constantly and I'm afraid that has left it's impression on me. Princeville area is very pretty...but gets more rain than Poipu. And we did not care for the part of the island "in between". (way to much traffic and congestion). We had heard that if it's raining in one part you can always find the sun by getting in your car and driving. NOT TRUE! At least not always. Although, the mileage is short....the time it takes is not. It was the first time in all my Hawaiian trips, that I was not able to get in the ocean...nor did I get in a pool, because they were too cold. Maybe it's all in the timing. Hmmm, maybe that's why it was so easy to get a trade into these 2 resorts.IP: Logged |

I think it was mainly a timing problem. I could go to Kauai everyear but really have no desire to return to Maui. I thought Maui was nice and had better night life but its not near as beautiful as Kauai. I think Kauai is easier to get because of there are far more timeshares there. I too didn't like the Kapaa/Lihue area because of congestion too but thought the rest of the island was spectactular. I wouldn't stay on the Northside during rainy season though. Next time I exchange into Hawaii I'm heading back to Kauai. IP: Logged |

We are getting into the ol' Poipu vs Princeville dispute. Been to Kauai four times, always Princeville, always March (during part of the "rainy season"). Have no desire to do anything different.------------------ Owner since 1996 (a paltry one) TUG member since 1997 IP: Logged |

Been to Kauai several times, we both LOVE staying at the Shearwater and the Embassy Poipu. Although we had an ocean view at the Embassy last time, if I knew I was further back with no view, I would choose the Shearwater.IP: Logged |

My niece stayed in Princeville for a week in late December and it rained all day, every day but when I stayed in the first week of April it only rained for most of the day one day. IP: Logged |

Anywhere in Kauai is fine with me. My favorite area is Hanalei.------------------ Jim, (Former) Florida Beach Boy Little Gull @LBK Islander Beach Resort @ New Smyrna Beach IP: Logged |

It is mostly about what you like and where you come from, Most folks that prefer Maui come from dry hot places and think a little rain is the end of days. Where as those of us that favor Kauai, know that in order to be lush and green it requires rain We won't ever be coming to Maui again, as for us it was crowded, noisy, dusty and brown, but then again to each their own. As far as resorts on Kauai , we love the Lawai Beach resort in Poipu during the winter and The Pono Kai in Kapaa ( in that area in between that had such bad traffic) for our fall trip. fwiw, Greg
Maybe it's all in the timing. Hmmm, maybe that's why it was so easy to get a trade into these 2 resorts.

We've been to Mauai several times, and it was very nice, but then we discovered Kauai, and there's no going back. We have spent one trip on Kauai & Maui, but that year, the week at Maui had more rain than we'd had the week before on Kauai. To address the question, we have stayed one time at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club, and that was pretty awesome, but for comfort and pure enjoyment, we prefer the times we've spent at the Lawai Beach Resort. ------------------ Jean IP: Logged |

We just got back from 3 weeks in Hawaii. First week in Oahu to see the Memorial and Polynesian Cultural Center and see if we had missed anything by always bypassing this island on our other numerous trips to Hawaii. Well, now we've been there, done that and don't have to wonder anymore. It was worth it but won't stop there again. If you do the Cultural Center get a ticket without the Luau. The food was AWFUL but the show was spectacular! Done by the students of Brigham Young University across the street. We've been to the Big Island 3 times, Maui twice, and Kauai too many times to count. Our favorite is Kauai, followed by Hawaii, the Big Island. Our favorite way to visit Kauai is one week in Princeville for that end of the island and then the second week in Poipu for that part of the island. I love both places but I'm partial to Princeville. I even like the rain but we've never been there when it rained ALL the time. I wouldn't like that! If you can get into either Marriott, they are great. Marriott in Nawiliwili has the best swimming beach on the island. Lots of the beaches are not safe because of the strong currents. Favorite restaurants are Hanalie Dolphin, Gaylord's and Kioki's. Expensive, tho.[This message has been edited by Zib (edited 05-23-2005).] IP: Logged |
