I booked a week at the Kona Coast Resort II for my son's honeymoon starting June 27. I'm starting to worry because the TUG Reviews are so mixed. I booked it some time ago, read the reviews then and thought it would be OK, especially because it is rated Gold Crown. There seem to be more poor reviews since then. Will being in phase II help? I'm wondering if this is too big a risk and I should try to book a hotel. I'm going to try to call and arrange for honeymoon accommodations. Any advice. Thank you. ------------------ Clarice IP: Logged |

As someone who posted a less than stellar review I think your choice is fine. It is not a Marriott type resort but it is fine, and we would request request another trade, and hope to stay, there again. It is a lovely resort and in a good location. It needs some maintenance, but most timeshares do. I personally think any problems at KRC still make it a better choice than a hotel. IMHOIP: Logged |

Thanks for your response. I really didn't want to have to find other accomodations. I think I'll call and see what we can do about getting them a nice unit. Any suggestions?------------------ Clarice IP: Logged |

We request an upper floor with the best view possible. I'm not sure an exchanger will get the best views, but it doesn't hurt to ask.We like buildings 21, 23 & 24. The site map is posted on the review page -- I would avoid 27 since it's closest to the road.

We stayed there a couple of years ago and had a great time. They probably won't spend all the time in the condo, even on a honeymoon, so I believe it would be something to remember at their 50th anniversary, their honeymoon in Kona. (Anniversaries are more important than weddings)A couple was camping on Kauai for their honeymoon and the biggest thrill was when King Kong came running through their campsite. It was being filmed at the time. Sterling

The units at Kona Coast II are being totally redone, but I don't remember the time schedule. When we were there in March we saw the new model and thought it was very very nice. The units do need it, so you might also ask about that in addition to location.IP: Logged |

I think Kona Coast II will be a great place for honeymoon accomodations. The grounds are beautiful and the units very nice. The upholstered furniture is getting somewhat tired and faded from cleaning, but the units are still very nice and enjoyable. My family just returned from 2 weeks at Kona Coast II and we had a great time. Some of the units have been repainted and recarpeted, but the new furniture has been delayed and is not expected to start installation until about the time they arrive. I doubt they will care. It still feels like staying in paradise. There is new furniture within the last year on all the lanais and at the pool. I do recommend they get air conditioning which will run about $50 per week and they should be prepared to be charged about $3.00 per day in Timeshare Occupancy Tax. The TSO is charged at all Hawaiian resorts and is the State of Hawaii's way of recouping what they lose in hotel tax when someone stays in a timeshare. It isn't fair in my mind because timeshare owners pay property taxes and shouldn't have to pay TSO as well. However, very few timeshare owners are voters in the state so this is the result. Thank you all for your advice. My confidence is back and I'm getting really excited for them! I have another question. I want to get a lei greeting at the airport, does anyone have a company they recommend. ------------------ Clarice IP: Logged |

I don't have any personal experience with any of the companies, but if you do a google search for "lei greeting Kona" you will get several websites to evaluate. I also thought I should mention for them to be prepared for a stark desert and lava setting when they arrive at the airport. This is not what most of the Big Island looks like and they should not go into immediate panic. DonIP: Logged |
