Do folks usually bring food to fix along on their flight? If so, what kind and how do they pack it? It is nice to eat out some, but we prefer not to eat out all the time.

We only take things like popcorn and coffee. Prices are higher in the Cayman's but we're on vacation. I rationalize it by comparing what we spend on groceries for a week at home and what we spend in the Cayman's. We spend about $200 a week for our family at home. In the Cayman's we spend about $300 for a week. I don't consider the extra $100 that big of a deal considering all of the other costs we incur in the Cayman's. We go in the summer, so we pay about $150 for electricity for the week, $70 for the condo tax, car rental that is not cheap, and a bizilion dollars for airfare. Those are the things that iritate me. Hoosier,

Are there extra charges for electricity and is there a condo tax for timeshares? What do cars and/or minivans cost to rent?

I think it is common in the Cayman's to charge for electricity. I think most of the timeshares do. We stayed 2 weeks in June at the Morritt's Torguga Club and paid about $270 for electricity. I think their website gives you a typical range. Count on the summer months being at the higher end of these averages. Morritt's charges on actual usage. The Reef which is next to Morritt's, I believe, charges a flat $200 per week for a 2br.

As I understand, the government didn't like not getting any tax revenue from timeshare visitors. If you went to a hotel, you would be charged a hotel tax similiar to what we have here in the states. I think it has been about a year now that they tax $10 a day per room. In our case, 2 weeks cost us an additional $140.

As far as car rentals goes, I can only speak for vans. We brought 6 people with us so we needed something bigger. The best rates I found were through Andy's. For two weeks with insurance ($900 deductible)it cost us almost $800.

Hope that helps!
