Club Caya must be new to II. It's not in the directory. What town is it in? You paid $149 for the exchange. If for some reason you can't go, you're only out $149. Why pay $59 more? Just my way of thinking.IP: Logged |

I think you mean Club Cala,at Palmas Del Mar Resort in Humacao.Large tired units with dock access if you like boating. The overall resort is a mixed use development with very nice private homes with 2 championship golf courses and a very tired hotel which is supposedly up for renovations.the Club Cala units aren't on the beach but it's close enough. The overall Palmas del mar project is huge.Check out www.marstersrealty.com and you can check out some of the beautiful homes on the property.Unfortunately,Club Cala doesn't match up to it's surroundings. The units aren't horrible,it's just that the surrounding resort and neighborhood accentuates some of it's faults. You definitely need a car. It's about 45 minutes on the autopista from San Juan.Bring your golf clubs! Thanks for the information - I had a week to use my May 1st so I grabbed this one as I have 2 adults and 4 kids. Can I ask what you mean by "tired" - hope it's not falling apart! Any sight-seeing suggestions? MaryBethIP: Logged |

I think I won't do the insurance - a friend gave the same rationale as you! She's been doing this for years and never a problem. MAryBeth - thanks.IP: Logged |

Regarding Club Cala - is it a hotel or more like townhouses with a restaurant on the premises? Thanks againIP: Logged |

we have not stayed at this resort since 1999. Things have probably changed as I believe they were planning on constructing another section. We enjoyed our stay there. We had a 2 bed/2bath townhome on 3 levels. Tiled floors, laundry. Clean and functional. About 25 yards from the pool and a 10 minute walk from the beach ( which is lovely and calm, very loing and a super walking beach ). Your children will be able to find sand dollars with their feet in the water at that time of year and blue starfish. There is also a equestrian facility. Small casino was closed because of hurricane damage but I expect it has now been repaired. We enjoyed quite a few meals in the harbor area and a delightful one at the main golfcourse club house. Decent buffet breakfast at Hotel Candelero. There is a supermarket when you get off the highway with good selection and prices. I happen to like the area very much. You are not far from the rainforest for a nice day trip. You will need a car. ------------------ Lawren There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favourite places is on the back of my horse. - Rolf Kopfle [This message has been edited by lawren2 (edited 02-20-2005).] IP: Logged |

Don't misunderstand me.Palmas Del Mar is one of the nicest gated communities in all of PR.The hotel is separate from Club Cala.It is located across the street.Club cala is a timeshare with townhouses. Most of the units have boat slips."Tired"means the place could use a fresh coat of paint and some updated furnishings and appliances. The units are three floors and very large, which is great for a large family. The units are functional and comfortable, they just aren't the height of luxury.Depending how old your kids are, that may actually be a benefit.Club Cala is just a small section of the larger Palmas commmunity and your family will have free reign of it all. There are miles of beaches, water sports, and the like. There is a small pool and clubhouse right across the parking lot from the condos. There was a casino, but my understanding is that is no longer open. There is a very nice restaurant at the golf course clubhouse.Definitely rent a car.You are only 45 minutes by freeway from San Juan if you want to got to the Old City. The El Yunque rainforest is a must with the kids if they are over 8 thru teenage. There are waterfalls they can play in,walking/hiking trails, huge ferns and orchids everywhere. It's just a neat environment.Palmas has horseback riding on the beach and you can take the ferry from Fajardo to Vieques island, which you 'll be able to see off the coast in the distance.some of the nicest untouched beaches in the Caribbean. The kids will like the snorkeling trip on a catamaran to Icacos island from Fajardo. One of the most fun things I've done in PR.A great way to spend the day!Highway 53 is a new freeway that will take you to Fajardo in about 30 minutes.I took the EASTWIND catamaran. It was great. It's $60 pp and includes a lunch spread with sandwiches and all alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.Toll free#is 877-we-r-4-fun.Their website is www.eastwindcats.com If you like French food, there is a great restaurant in the town of Humacao where club Cala is located called CHEZ DANIEL.787-850-3838 is their number.Check out www.gotopuertorico.com for more PR info.Hope this helps![This message has been edited by SPARTANINPR (edited 02-20-2005).][This message has been edited by SPARTANINPR (edited 02-20-2005).] [This message has been edited by SPARTANINPR (edited 02-20-2005).] [This message has been edited by SPARTANINPR (edited 02-20-2005).] [This message has been edited by SPARTANINPR (edited 02-20-2005).] [This message has been edited by SPARTANINPR (edited 02-20-2005).] IP: Logged |

I have no idea when you are going but plugged in Easter and Passover weeks ( which would be the highest priced) and got much better fares than that! These were Saturday to Saturday non-stop flights. Easter week: from $338.70 Roundtrip 6:05 pm Depart Philadelphia (PHL) Arrive San Juan (SJU) 10:56 pm Sat 26-Mar Duration: 3hr 51mn US Airways 99 Nonstop flight Passover week: from $318.70 Roundtrip 12:45 pm Depart Philadelphia (PHL) Arrive San Juan (SJU) 4:33 pm Sat 23-Apr Duration: 3hr 48mn US Airways 792 Nonstop flight USAir will be flying until at least end of summer and they hub out of Philly so would be your best bet. ( Although they don't discount children's fare. American will "usually" give 10% off under 18 to caribbean)

I know my airfare is high but I didn't book it until 2 days ago and I was concerned about the status of US Airways (which I understand now is going to be ok for awhile) This was kind of an unplanned trip planned in the last week! Again - thanks.IP: Logged |
