I was just wondering whether anyone knows anything about this resort. I have a friend interested in staying somewhere in the Caribbean, and this keeps coming up. But there are no reviews, and very few pictures. What are the rooms like? Is it on the beach? Is it near the airport, and, if so, how bad is the noise? Any info you can give regarding room location, floor, configuration, etc.? Whatever anyone can provide would be appreciated. ------------------ Those are my principles. And if you don't like them, well, I have others. IP: Logged |

La Terrasse is the sister resort to La Plage across the street in Maho Bay. It opened this past year and you can get a feel for the rooms here: http://royalislander.com/ The resort was not yet opened when we were last there in November 03 but if the standards are the same as La Plage where we stayed I wouldn't hesitate to stay there. Very close to the airport but you don't hear the planes in the unit. Great location next door to a casino and all the shopping in the area. Supermarket right in the building. The only draw back would be crossing the street to the beach which I assume they share with La Plage. I imagine the higher floors would have a beautiful view as well. ------------------ Lawren There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favourite places is on the back of my horse. - Rolf Kopfle [This message has been edited by lawren2 (edited 03-01-2005).] IP: Logged |

We own at the Royal Islander La Terrasse. We purchased during pre-construction and stayed for the first time for two weeks for Christmas 2004. We own a studio, but used a bonus week for a second week in a 1 bedroom. The units are both nice and have everything that one needs. The staff is vey helpful and friendly, and the location is great. As was mentioned in the last post, you don't hear the planes from inside the unit, and it is fun watching them go in and out. The grocery store right downstairs is excellent and very convenient. If you rent a car, there is underground parking - also very convenient. We also own at the Atrium and have been visiting Sint Maarten yearly for many years. The Atrium is in Simpson Bay area, so we have never stayed in the Maho area. It was great fun being able to walk to the restaurants, Royal Casino, shops, Sunset Beach Bar, etc. Each night there was entertainment at Cheri's Cafe and on the street. They actually had snow machines on the top of the Sonesta Beach Hotel that gave convincing snow (it was really soap suds)each night during the Christmas holiday. The pool is large and is very pretty, with lots of seating. Since the resort is only about 7 % sold out, there were days when we had the whole pool to ourselves. The most people that we saw at the pool at one time was about 8. As mentioned, we are able to share the activities, beach and facilities at the Royal Islander La Plage. We are not allowed to use the La Plage pool, but that doesn't really matter because the Sonesta pools are available also. All in all, I think that you would be happy with a trade to La Terrasse.IP: Logged |

I stayed at the older one & did a tour on the new one La Terasse! I'm trying to go back in 2007 to that resort!! It was outstanding & I go to SXM every year! I also own @ Sunterra Flamingo Beach & so far this is the only one I have liked as much! The reason it comes up is that the devoper wants to get traders in there to sell to! The studio is too small but that is the only thing I didn't like about it! I really would go for a 1 bedroom or bigger!IP: Logged |

Do these two resorts trade with RCI or II - I'm thinking of putting in a request for Christmas 2006, but need a 2 bedroom unit if possible.TIA ------------------ Barb IP: Logged |

Barb, La Terrasse trades with RCI. La Plage trades with RCI and II. From what I understand, most owners use their Christmas weeks at La Plage. Not sure about La Terrasse, but relatively few units are sold.------------------ TomR IP: Logged | |
