Hi Folks,Am interested in possibly purchasing a 2br unit and have read the reviews. However there are still some questions I have and hope that some of you, having been there, can supply me with the answers. 1. Is there a lot of wind or breezes at the resort. I ask because my wife has a vision problem and if there is a lot of wind it a no no for us. Breezes are fine. 2. How far away is the hospital? 3. Is the entire unit air conditioned or just the bedrooms? 4. Does the lock off have a small kitchen? 5. Are there elevators to the upper floor units and how many units are there at the resort? 6. From pictures I've seen it appears the resort is right on the beach but II's description says its nearby? 7. How much was the assessment for Ivan and when will resort reopen? 8. How much damage did Ivan do? 9. Can you rent out the lock-off if you have floating weeks? 10. Can a floating week be converted to a fixed week? 11. Is this deeded or RTU? 12. Any suggestion what a fair price would be for a 2br? Thanks for your help Dave IP: Logged |

Dave-A nicely built TS, but you may want to re-think. I suggest that you see it with your own eyes before you decide to buy. It is on what is basically a man-made beach on North Sound. It is not on or near the main 7-mile beach area or the other resorts on the beaches of East End. The water didn't look too inviting when I saw it and I am not sure I would really want to go in swimming there. OK for sunbathing !! Take a look at their website. As best I remember, they have the floorplans listed. You would have to have a car to get anywhere and to drive to 7-mile beach, but it is close to the golf course. I know they had some damage, but frankly don't remember how much or what the expected opening dates are. Seems like I remember that the top floor took a bit of a beating. 1. It's not as windy as say the east end but it is more so than a resort on 7 Mile Beach. Take a look at this map. The resort is located where it says "golf" right near the dotted line that says "Ferry". The wind usually blows in from the east or north east so it picks up intensity coming across the North Sound whereas 7 Mile is in the lea of the island so you get very little wind as a result.2. It's in George Town so probably a 10 minute drive 3. The entire unit is A/C 4. It has a fridge, coffeemaker and a microwave (bit fuzzy on that) 5. There is one elevator at the end of the building and I don't know how many units there are. Half face the inward portion of the building (pool, beach) and the other half face the Safehaven Golf Course - there is a large black net to keep golf balls from breaking windows strung along that side. 6. You cannot swim at the Caymanian as the shore is all ironstone and where it isn't it is very rocky/shells. We couldn't swim and we really tried. It's on the North Sound and it's very shallow at the resort. You would have to drive to 7 Mile beach public beach or perhaps cemetary beach which is 5-10 minute drive away (it's too far to walk BTW). 7. No idea 8. It got hit pretty hard - there was substantial water damage to all the main floor units. If I'm remembering correctly there was something like 5-6' of sea water that passed through. 9. I would imagine so 10. I suspect it can but you'll be paying the resort a premium to do so. You'd be better off buying a fixed week rather than trying to mess around with that since you'd be a the resort's mercy on what they'd charge to convert. 11. RTU or so I was told 12. For what week? Try to answer your remaining questions.According to the Grand Caymanian their insurance was adequate and they have not said anything about an assessment. They are rebuilding but the reopening date keeps moving back as they are having a hard time getting building materials. This has been confirmed by some friends of mine who visited there a couple of weeks ago when their cruise ship pulled in. The whole first floor was basically underwater and then, because they went a long time without power, the mold and mildew pretty much wiped out all of the sheet rock and furnishings. However, the basic building is block so once they stripped out the damaged areas they did not need to do any work on the basic structure. The last I heard they were talking reopening in the late summer though their website is still saying they will reopen on 6/4/05. We paid $4000 for a one bedroom EOY. I can't remember what they call the season but it basically encompasses all of the summer and the fall up to a week or so before Christmas. Don't know much about floating versus fixed week as they did not even discuss fixed weeks with us. [This message has been edited by neildonovan (edited 03-04-2005).] IP: Logged |

Glad you liked it - it's the best I've found. The Reef is on the very far right (east) end. See where it says "Beach Bar, Restaurant, Water Sports" in the top right corner - that's where The Reef and Morritt's are located. IP: Logged |
