I have an exchange for next month in this resort. What is the best transportation from the airport? How much would a taxi cost? Is it recommended to rent a car and where can I get the best deal? This will be our first time to Aruba and we are looking forward to it.

A cab from the airport is I think around $10??? Ask before you get in as rates are fixed. La Cabana has an onsite rental Optima car rental and we always use it. If you are unsure about driving from the airport just cab to the resort (a 10-15 min ride depending on traffic) and get a car at the resort for a few days. That alleviates the hassle of having to return the car to the airport when you depart the island. Also, if you are curous and take any timeshare tours (we did the Paradise Beach resort next to La Cabana) you can get a car free for 2 days. It is a fairly easy island to negotiate. But, they use few street signs. When you head downtown, park behind the bus station which will be on your left as you head into town. For better driving directions to the resort from the airport if you get a car there, email me and I will have my husband send them to you. We do pick up our car there as we know our way around faily well. Have fun.

When we traveled to Aruba in August we rented a car at the airport. I simply walked across the road to the kiosks and found one from one of the independents for $150. Prices are negotiable. Returns were as simple.

Lynda's suggestion of using local transportation except for a day or two of car rental is a good one. Having access to a car is useful if you plan to do grocery shopping or sample night life requiring transportation.

On previous trips we didn't rent a car but used the local bus service, except for taxi service to/from the airport. Bussing is convenient, cheap, safe and fun. Especially, cheap. The bus, which runs between town and Palm Beach via Eagle Beach, stops in front of La Cabana.

When we were at LaCabana last year, we took the bus to and from the supermarket. We were able to easily carry groceries for two on the bus. If you are feeding more people, take a taxi which is about $8 for the return trip.

My wife and I have been to Aruba several times. We mainly go for the beach, so we take a cab, and use the bus when we want to go to town. They have a great bus system.

Thanks for the information. By the way, everyone mentions about going to the supermarket. Is there a grocery store at the resort?

A mini market so the prices are inflated just the same at all the other resorts. I just came back for 3 weeks (our 8th year) and we're down the road from La Cabana at Costa Linda. We rented this year from Jansen Car Rental. I have to tell you they were the best! The car was gassed up and running with the AC on when we walked across the street from the arrivals area. My DH said it was the easiest return he has ever had as well. Also check out www.aruba-bb.com for a great site for info on Aruba. linda

Thanks for the information. We will be arriving on Sunday, so
I guess we will pay $20.00. By the way, what would be a reasonable tip?
