Hi,Has anyone noticed crazy things going on with American Airlines and airfare/frequent flier miles to the caribbean? Booking for President's week 2006 has been very difficult this year. There were no "mile sAAver" seats offered for the vacation week ie:30,000 miles. They only offered the "AAny Time awards" which are 60,000 miles per ticket. Ouch. Also, If you opt to pay cash the tickets are over $900 from Boston. If you travel mid-week they are less but with a timeshare, we're locked into weekends. It's always been tough but this year is the worst I've seen it. Has anyone else experienced problems? ------------------ Paul Disney's Beach Club Villas Disney's Vero Beach Resort Marriott's Aruba Ocean Club Marriott's St. Thomas Frenchman's Cove IP: Logged |

Not just president's week...I've been waiting for the fare to go on sale for this aug and so far it hasn't...in fact it's gone up a bit...I've monitored AA fares to Aruba before and ususally see some kind of sale around feb/mar but nothing this year and I've been checking everyday since last aug!IP: Logged |

Check Delta song. www.flysong.com They begin non-stop service to Aruba (on Saturdays only) from JFK on 7/23rd. Just booked my brother-in-law for 8/20th flight return 9/3 and RT was $520. Cheapest I'm seeing anyway... ------------------ Lawren There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favourite places is on the back of my horse. - Rolf Kopfle IP: Logged |

We were in Aruba for both President's week and the week after in 2005...used Marriott rewards points for the airfare and first week stay...stayed in the Surf club the second week. We checked Delta fares at the time and they were running around $1,100.00 per person round tripGood luck finding more economical fares on any of ther major carriers. -------------------- Tom IP: Logged |

All you need to do is have some activity in your account to reset the expiration date. Doesn't have to be from flying. There are a bunch of ways to dump a few miles in that will keep the rest alive. IP: Logged |

I booked AA out of Boston just before Christmas for a flight in June. They had a great nonstop for $625.00. Since I booked they have changed the flight and now there is a stop in San Juan, and of course this means the flight leaves 2 hours earlier. Since I am at the far western edge if the state I now need a room for the night.I would have booked Albany or Hartford except I wanted the nonstop, which only Boston offered. I looked into changing to Hartford but the price was about $250.00 more per ticket, so I guess I'm lucky to have the Boston reserved. PatIP: Logged |

I'm also having a much more "uncomfortable" time than ever before finding fares to St. Thomas in August. My boyfriend is booked on AA nonstop with FF miles (only enough for one) and I'm waiting for fares to lower for me and his kids. We're locked into AA because I have more than $200 in vouchers from vigilence watching fares lower last year after buying my ticket. Now, however, it's my understanding that AA isn't giving out those vouchers or charging so much for them that it's not worth the effort. I too check daily and just watch them creep upwards, $10 here, $10 there..... Frustrating. IP: Logged |

Northern Willy: It's for my 3 kids...I have to manage their ff accts as well as mine and DH's...not enough time to figure out how to get activity on the other 4 accts (...especially the kids...)I'll welcome suggestions!!! But it's too late to get them ff seats for the Aug trip.... IP: Logged |
