Which of the timeshares on St. Maarten/St. Martin have the best beaches? Do any of them have watersports (sailing or wind surfing) on site? Thanks.

We've been to St. Martin several times and always stay on the French side at 'Les Cottages de Lonvilliers'which is just next to the Meridien resort on a beautiful beach at Anse Marcel. Day usage of the beach chairs was $5 and if we had lunch in one of the restaurants at the Meridien we were able to use their pools. The bay is really lovely and swimming there was wonderful.

Forgot to add that there is a marina at Anse Marcel so I imagine there would be lots of water sports. Can't say for sure.

We stayed at the Sapphire in 2003. At that time, the beach was severely eroded from the effects of recent hurricanes and no water sportw were available. In 1997, we were at the Atruim. I don't think they had water sports equipment. Beach is nice, quiet and uncrowded. Orient Beach is the happening place. You can rent almost any water sports stuff there.I would recommend going to TriSports in Simpson Bay to rent kayaks and other equipment. They have a website - can't remember the address - but you'll be able to find it via google.com.

Also - I would recommend that you don't limit yourself to your hotel beach. SMX has an abundance of awesome places to explore. If it is in your budget, rent a car - it's well worth the $$!

I go to SXM every year & I have stayed at most of the resorts! I liked staying at different ones so I could get the feel of each resort! There was one that standed out to me & that was Sunterra Flamingo Beach (which I got one this year cuz I traded 3 times into it & LOVED it all 3 times & that is the only resort I can say that about!) I traded into Sapphire 2 times & the 1st time I fell in love with it but I went back 2 years later & was so unhappy how run down it was.
My list would go in this order:
1. La Vista Beach Resort
2. Sunterra Flamingo Beach
3. Royal Islander Club La Terrasse
4. The Atrium
5. Royal Islander Club La Plage
6. Sunterra Royal Palm Beach
7. The Tower @ Mullet Bay
8. La Vista
9. Port DE Plaisance Resort
10. Oyster Bay
11. Divi Little Bay Beach
12. Belair Beach Hotel
13. The Summit Resort (Which almost everyone who stays there falls in love with it just not my kind of resort.)
14. Mary's Boon Beach Plantation
15. Pelican (If you can get the building on the beach only)
Ones I would never stay at again or had friends on the same trip stay there again:
1. Caravanserai Beach
2. Nettle Bay Beach
3. Cottages De Lonvilliers
4. Sapphire
5. The Ocean Club Waterview Apartments
6. This is the one I would NEVER stay at!!! Sea Palace

All these are what I have found myself! Someone else may have loved or hated resorts I have listed! Just wanted you to know what I was thinking!

Cappy's list makes interesting reading!
We first went to St M in Oct 1996, staying at the Pelican, and buying an odd year week at the Sapphire - to start in 1999!!
In 1999 we stayed in our week at the Sapphire, as well as a second week at La Vista, and buying another odd year week at the Sapphire.
So in 2001, 2003 and 2005 (we are just back) we have had two weeks at the Sapphire.

We have always loved the Sapphire, both as a T/S resort and for its fantastic location - a few hundred yards one is into France, and the 'back road' into Marigot is never congested (plus with the road round Fort St Louis, it is never difficult to get to the Supermarche nor to Grand Case)
This year the Sapphire handled our move from our first week (Lagoon studio 337) to second week (Ocean/Pool studio 203) so well...we were packed and ready to move at 7:00am and as 203 had been free on the friday, we were given the key, were moved in at 7:30am, bought our baguettes at 8:00am and were having breakfast on the deck of our new accomodation at 8:15am!!!
Thanks, Sapphire!
The pool at Sapphire is great, Happy Hour fine, and the two-man steel band that plays twice a week fantastic! We often bought salads at lunch time to eat 'chez nous'. Both our studios were in fine condition, and all the maids / reception folks very nice

Staying at Sapphire allows us to be on the beach at Baie Rouge every morning between 9:00 and 9:30 - our place in the shade under the cliffs was always free.....leaving at 1:00pm when the sun got high! Wonderful beach, wonderful swimming!

I think we used the market at Marigot 5 times, the Match supermarket 3 times. All phone calls were made from the phone box at the top of the hill on the French side that is just 'over the border), using a French telecard that we got in Baie Nettle. Baie Nettle also has an internet cafe which we used once in our second week....5 Euros for 1 hour.

We only go to Phillipsburg once - to have lunch at the Pasanggrahan and visit the Guavaberry Emporium. Traffic congestion gets worse every year...driving WEST of the airport is so much more fun!!!

We did go to look at La Vista again, a nice resort but not too well located.

As for other restaurants / bars, Marigot & Grand Case, plus Maho and Turtle Pier - that's all one needs!!!!! Of course we did visit the Caravanserai/Tiki bar to see 'King Bob' and also had an obligatory Happy Hour at the Sunset Beach Bar!

Now back in Colorado, the biggest thing we miss is a REAL French baguette, but...that's one reason we look forward to 2007 already!

That's all for today...we left when it was snowing, and it snowed a lot while we were away too - I can see snow covered peaks out of every window in the house still!!

Loved Cappy's top St. Marteen timeshare list! We have stayed at several timeshares throughout the past ten years and I agree w/her completely! We will be staying at the Flamingo Beach Resort this year for the first time in June. I have not stayed at the LaVista Beach resort either. But totally agree w/her regarding the Royal Islander, Atrium, and Towers at Mullet Bay. We did not care for Cottages de Lonviller either. Hope to post a good trip report from the Flamingo Beach Resort!

Wow. Interesting to see how widely opinions vary.

Speaking personally, I'd rate Flamingo Beach way, way down on the list. I doubt I would ever stay there again. Tiny rooms, with a nice view of a concrete wall and the garbage cans. Very rude and unhelpful staff.

I'd rate Divi very high on the list...also, we LOVED Lonvillier, even if the rooms and furniture are not the very nicest.

I guess it's just a matter of what you are looking for.

We spent a week in March at the Sapphire and were pleasantly surprised after reading so many dreadful reviews. We had a great studio, very clean, service was excellent, and the pool was great. Even the food at the bar was good! I would have liked a beach, but there are plenty on the island! We were't huge fans of SXM as we thought it was much too commercialized.
