My wife and I will be going to Cabo for the first time and staying at the Westin Resort and Spa.We plan to rent a car and only plan to go to Todos Santos so far. We'll be in Cabo for five days. What else should we plan on doing? Thanks, Jerry IP: Logged |

That really depends on what you like to do. Fishing and golf are outstanding. La Paz is a great place to visit along with Todos Santos. Snorkeling is decent at Playa Chilleno and Playa Santa Maria.IP: Logged |

When your in town, be sure to visit the Shrimp House. Simple but very good shrimp by the kilo. Be sure to try a Bulldog too.An afternoon at the Office is fun and the sunset at Georgios is popular. Ediths is nice for drinks fod is a little pricey. Have fun. IP: Logged |

Suggest you check out San Jose Del Cabo in addtion to Todos Santos. It's only about 20-25 minutes from the Westin so you could head there for lunch some day and explore for a few hours. More of an "old town" feel than CSL. Several cute restaurants and shops seem to be a little less pricey than downtown Cabo.IP: Logged |

Are you in the timeshares or the hotel side? It's a gorgeous resort, and you will would probably enjoy just lounging at the beach or pools for at least one day. We've stayed in the timeshare side. At the timeshare pools check the schedule for Bingo. It's fun and they play at the swim-up bar in the adult pool for bottles of tequila. The hotel-side pools are the nicest, in my opinion, and we usually walked from the timeshares over there. They also have a nice beach for sunning, and a free internet room near the restaurant & the small, shallow, upper-level shaded pool. The hotel pools are very warm, and also great for a late night swim and looking up at all those glorious stars. Westin Regina is a very nice place to relax, enjoy a good book & a favorite beverage, and unwind. Wish I was there right now... --- Rene McDaniel

Rene --We are in the hotel side -- using Starpoints for the trip. We're staying 3 nights at the Westin and two nights at the Sheridan Hacienda. Are guests from the hotel side permitted in the timeshare pools? My wife and I are just looking for a week away from it all. It's going to be weird, however, since we'll be vacationing for the first time without our five and eight year old (they'll be at our house with Grandma and Grandpa). Thanks, Jerry IP: Logged |

[QUOTE]Originally posted by theunitrep: Are guests from the hotel side permitted in the timeshare pools?Well they don't check or anything. So I think you can feel free to use whatever pools you want. We always walk over to the hotel pools because we have a 10-year old and there are usually more kids in the hotel pools than in the timeshare. Just bring your towels with you from the hotel-side, and you won't have to deal with the towel-exchange people needing to see your room key. The pool towels are the same for both the hotel & the timeshare. But before heading over for the win-a-bottle-of-Tequila bingo, you may want to find out what day & what time they have it. (It's a bit of a hike over & up to the timeshare pools). They have a very limited activities schedule on the timeshare side. They do bingo in the pool only for 1 hour/day, and I'm not sure if they do it every day, or not. We just happened to luck into it. Staff at the towel check-out or pool bar on the timeshare side could tell you. Possibly you could have the Westin operator connect you there via the in-house phones. I'd be interested to hear your impressions of the Sheraton when you return. We have an exchange into a 1-bedroom timeshare unit at Hacienda del Mar for President's week 2006. The RCI website says that there are very few oceanview units (Rats), so I'm wondering what to expect as far as the garden views are concerned. Also wondering what you think of the pools at Sheraton vs. Westin. We have been very pleased with our exchanges to Westin Regina and Playa Grande, so I hope the Sheraton will work out as well. As for Todos Santos, we thought it was just "okay". We had lunch at the Hotel California, shopped around at the art galleries for a bit, and saw most of the town -- then headed back to Cabo. There wasn't really very much to see once you get there. Unless you're a real art lover, you may want to save that for a cloudy or already-too-sunburned day. --- Rene McDaniel

Rene --Since my wife and I are "traveling like newlyweds" (no kids) we think we're primarily going to relax by the pools by day and find stuff to do at night. The primary reason we were going to rent a car was to get places without having to rely on taxis (Todos Santos being one). From your description, Todos Santos may not be for us (especially since it will take away from our time at the pool). I would still think a car is a necessity to sightsee and enjoy the night life (even though we have no idea where to go). Would you agree that a car is necessary? Jerry IP: Logged |

For the kind of vacation you are describing, with three nights at the Westin and two at the Sheraton, you are going to use up some time checking out of one place and checking into the other. So, I'd recommend that you skip Todos Santos, too.I didn't find enough interesting things to see and do there to warrant the time it takes to get there and back. If you are wanting to just relax, spend your time at the pool during the day, and go some place for dinner in the evening. Spend some time walking around the marina area in Cabo San Lucas, maybe take a sunset cruise, look around in the shops, that sort of thing. Hope you have a great time just being together. Well, in my opinion, it's not that the car is necessary -- especially since you are in hotels, not timeshares. It's just that for most folks staying in a timeshare -- you really need the car to get off-property to shop for groceries. In Cabo, with the high costs of transportation to-and-from the airport, we would have to pay the same for transportation as it would cost to rent a car for a week. So, with the issue of lugging groceries from the store and the occasional meal out -- the financials are heavily on the plus side for the rental car. So, since you are only staying 5 days you may want to do the math and see if it's worth your while. If you're planning to eat dinner and enjoy nightlife in Cabo, you may want a car to avoid the high cost of taxis (I'm guessing $15-20 each way from the Westin??). On the other hand, I've met many people in Cabo who will tell you they NEVER rent a car, because they do a lot of big partying when they are there and will need a taxi to get home safely. But most of those folks usually stay in Cabo much closer to the nightlife. Both Westin and Sheraton are WAY out on the corridor, so I would guess that taxi fares might match the cost of car rental pretty quickly. Also, a car would allow you to visit San Jose del Cabo which is actually closer than Cabo and has a lot of nice restaurants, too. -- Rene McDaniel IP: Logged |

We stayed at HDM last August, and loved it. Spent a lot of the week just hanging around the infinity pool. We don't usually spend most of our vacation by the pool, but it was so beautiful. Had a car, went to Costco the first day. Then we'd pack a beach bag with frozen Pina Coladas and sandwiches and hang by the pool. But you're right about few oceanview rooms. The pools are next to the ocean, so the units are up the hill. Ours was probably the 3rd tier, yet we still had a bit of ocean view. We probably had to walk the equivalent of a city block to get to the infinity pool. No big deal, unless you have a disability. IP: Logged |

Jerry, I'm not a Cabo expert (there once last Easter), but I'd say you're all dialed in for what you want to do there. You could rent a car for a couple days, if you want. I personally like to always have a car at my disposal. I like the freedom it gives me.As another Tugger has already mentioned, walk around the marina district and make some Mexican friends there. I met a couple Mexican fellows who were hawking Cabo Villas tours who turned out to be quite friendly. For the price of some gas for their Jeep, one was kind enough to show me to the top of the mountain housing district just off downtown. Suggest you try the California guy's open air seafood restaurant right on the corner of the marina district (sorry, can't remember the name. Another tugger can help). Excellent lobster and fish. He and his staff are friendly and really know how to take care of you. Have a great time! quote: Originally posted by theunitrep: Rene --Since my wife and I are "traveling like newlyweds" (no kids) we think we're primarily going to relax by the pools by day and find stuff to do at night. I think the restaurant that Greg was referring to was Solomon's Landing Which is along the marina at the hotel that used to be the Plaza not So Glorias (Plaza Los Glorias) I think it is now called Cabo Real? We have never eaten at Soloman's but will try it next time as some friends we met on our last trip raved about Solomans and said the lobster was killer. Its hard to believe it has only been a little over a month since we were in Cabo.

See the other posts I just did as we just returned from 2 weeks one at the Hacienda Del Mar. I think its a great scenic spot. nice layout of the buildings. With a Garden View you may not see the Sea but most all face the water and not a parking lot but maybe a bldg blocks your view. It is not far from town but we rent a car every year for the entire time we are there. It gives us the flexibility to go when we want and I golf so I can go. We travel a couple times to San Jose which is much closer from the Westin. In fact from there I would travel those days to San Jose and to Cabo when at the HDM. Enjoy and check out the Finisterra review for restaurant reviews and email me with any other questions. ENJOY!! IP: Logged |
