We are planning a family graduation celebration next year in Cancun, possibly. We have never been to the "Royal Resorts". What is the favorite among them? What input if any does anyone have on the various locations?I notice there is a shuttle between resorts. Are they close to one another? Can you use the facilities at the other locations where you are not staying? Do they all offer pretty much the same activities? Any info is so appreciated! I have read the reviews. Thanks so much, Dash [This message has been edited by dash (edited 03-04-2005).] IP: Logged |

My family loves the tri-Royals (Islander, Caribbean and Mayan). The Sands comes in second, and VCI third. The tri-Royals are more like three phases of the same resort. They are all adjacent. We like the "active" waves of the beach vs. VCI. I don't like the seaweed over by VCI. The tri-Royals have three times the restaurants, activities, etc. as any other Royal. The Sands has a nice wide beach, but I don't necessarily like the guests as much (hope no offense is taken! ). The Sands now has a heated pool, but the tri-Royals are adding some soon as well. The one thing that I like about the Sands, though, is its proximity to the mall. Very convenient. However, I also like the proximity of the tri-Royals to Captain's Cove.JMHO! IP: Logged |

Its a nice little resturant right across from the tri-royals, its on the lagoon side and you can sit and look at the water while you eat, Oh yeah if you stay at the royals you get a % off your meal but im dont remember how much. I like the breakfast buffet at the trade winds the best for about $8.00 a person and young kids are free, we will be heading back to the caribbean with 18 people this coming 4th of july week!!

Captain's Cove is a seafood restaurant located on the lagoon. It is a part of the Royals and you can use your "Royal card" there also and have meals charged to your room. It is within walking distance from the tri-Royals (but not from the Sands). We thought the food was good (but not great). They offer a seafood buffet one night (Friday, I think). We all agreed it was ok but not sure we would do the buffet again. IP: Logged |

The Royal Mayan is our favorite, but that fits right in with the tri Royals. You can go from one to the other without ever going on the street. The different resturants within the 3 will please everyone and you can have pizza delivered to the room. You can also go to the R.Carribean and pick up chicken/etc from the deli and eat in. With a large group...this is the best choice. Capt. Cove across the street is good but the other Resturants within the tri's are also good. Especially...CONQUISTIDOR!! ENJOYIP: Logged |

I would order my favorites in the reverse. VCI is our favorite but I admit there is a lot of nostalgia in that. The 'village' layout creates a totally different atmosphere. After that we like the Sands. We never liked the tri-Royals for some reason and my family sold all our units out there years back. If they had not built the Sands we probably would have just written off Cancun in 2007 when VCI closes. We spend time at all the properties and use the shuttle a lot. Sometimes we just use it as an express bus to move around the hotel zone. I wish they ran more often is all. IP: Logged |

If lucky, you may also catch a glimpse of Pancho, the neighbourhood 'crocodillo'. The discount for Royals' guests is 10%. IP: Logged |

The Tri Royals consists of The Royal Mayan, Islander and Carribean. They are all situated right next door to each other so they sort of equate to a mega resort. The Royal Sands is some ways down the beach. I've heard that it is a fifteen minute walk from the Tri Royals to the Sands. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Also, as you can see on the map, VCI is basically down the road and around the bend. Looks like a good 15-20 minutes away. You can see it on the map below http://mexicondo.com/Cancun_map.htm I'd like to know what is wrong with the people at the Sands? Is it the staff or the guests? The Royal Sands is a good 1.5 miles (maybe closer to 2) North of the Royal Mayan. I don't have the addresses in front of me but I believe the Sands at at km 16.5 and the Tri Royals are about 21-22km. I can check my map later to verify. I good place for a Cancun map/tourist guide is www.cancunmap.com Laura & Perry do a great job with their maps, and they are very reasonably priced.Mike IP: Logged |

I like the TRI Royals and own at the Royal Islander. I don't like the atmosphere at the Royal Sands (particularly phase I). Too much concrete, different crowd (younger).I like the feel of VCI however I don't like the beach. I love the big waves at the sands and tri royals. IP: Logged |

Well, to add to the discussion, we own at the Islander, and have also stayed at the Sands. Both the Tri-Royals and the Sands have their strong points, it just depends on your preference. We like the wide choice of restaurants at the Tri-Royals, and the variety of pools. The people also do seem a little older and perhaps less "monied." However, we love the Spa at the Sands and the music at the Royal Bandstand, also at the Sands. We've stayed at Phase 2 at the Sands, which can end up being a long walk to the main lobby, grocery store, etc. The Sands is certainly more upscale, if that is important to you. As mentioned, the Sands pools are heated, but 2 of the 3 Tri-Royals are to be heated too. Yeah!!! We move between them all on the free shuttle and don't believe you can go wrong with any of them.IP: Logged |

I so appreciate your repsonses, even if you think you are not helping me with much information, you really are. I have never stayed at the royals or have even seen them. So, any and all the information you are sharing is really helping me in making what I think an important decision.Thank you, thank you! Dash

Dash- We were in Cancun during Thanksgiving week last year and stayed at VCI. While there we spent time at each of the other facilities - pool hopping one day through the tri-Royals and spent about a day and a half at the Sands. Also toured the Sands. These are all really very nice resorts. I liked the Sands better than the tri-Royals, but not by much. Spent a fair amount of time in the phase one pool and one the beach and surf. Nice restaurant and the spa and Royal Bandstand are adjacent. These are really wonderful resorts. We had pretty much decided to go back for next Thanksgiving before we left and decided that we liked VCI best because of the atmosphere, set-up and the beach. It seemed more laid-back to us (a group of 50-something old folks with daughters in their teens and twenties along with my oldest daughter's mid-twenties boyfriend). For me, the tri-Royals and the Sands seemed a little more like corporate-Royals as opposed to VCI. So, we're booked at VCI for this year now, too. I thought it was really sort of fun to ride the public transportation from Royal to Royal in addition to using their shuttle. Dick Taylor IP: Logged |

X-Ring- Thanks for correcting my mistake on the Royals location. With that being said, The Sands is still about a mile and a half away from the Tri-Royals (and if you start at the Islander, it's a bit longer still)and not what I'd consider a reasonable walking distance (unless of course you just want to get the exercise).Dash- If you haven't been to the Royals you should definitely check out www.mexicondo.com You can check the photos pages and get a lot of good information about the Royal Resorts. Another website to check out is www.Royalresorts.com Mike [This message has been edited by M&M (edited 03-07-2005).] IP: Logged |

We own 3 weeks at the Sands. We prefer the Sands over the tri-royals as we have children and the Sands is more contained them the tri-royals. My family likes to go to VCI and snorkle. We rarely go to the tri-royals when we are there.IP: Logged |

We like the Sands the best. We have stayed at several other Royals and prefer the Sands because it has easier access to the beach and generally is more elegant than the others. The Spa is a real bonus that everyone should take advantage of. I would agree that the resaurants at the tri Royals offer more options but the shuttle is easy and convenient. I agree that you can't go wrong at any of the Royals. The service and empolyees are impecable. Also very clean. IP: Logged |
