A co-worker is going to Puerto Vallarta for spring break next week with husband and 4 sons (high school and college ages). I don't know the name of resort, but she said it is south of town. She would like suggestions for activities and places to eat. Not sure if they will have a rental car or not. I have only been to PV once and am not familiar with activities on the south side of the city. We were at Villa del Palmar and used taxi and bus to get around. I know that we enjoyed some good restaurants, but I don't remember the names. Any suggestion will be welcome. They booked this trip through a travel agent. I told her to look at TUG classified ads before their next trip. I also warned her about TS salesmen and said that resale is a better option if they enjoy themselves enough to want to go back. Again, I'll welcome any suggestions for activites, food, getting around, etc. Thank you. IP: Logged |

We just returned and several places we loved were: Archie's Wok, and Barcelona Tapas. They were highly recommended by all. They are in the downtown area and easy enough to get to if I could find them. Archie's may be in Old Town? Another place we stumbled onto was Fajita Rebublic and it was good also. Went to Blue Shrimp but I thought the shrimp was overdone and tough. Others have recommended the Shrimp Factory. I found restaurants to be very reasonable. Our most expensive dinner with drinks and one dessert was around $55 before tip. We came home and booked immediately for next Feb!! Loved it Loved it. Stayed in the Marina and loved that area too. My 2 favorite dining experiences in PV were both off the beaten path. The first is the seafood taco stand Marisma that I found here: http://www.vallarta-info.com/streetfood.html Everything is really good, one of the girls there speaks English (there an English menu as well), and we only spent around $8 on lunch for 2!The other one is "Tacos on the Street" in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (20 minutes North of PV). I found this one researching Villa Bella (a Bed and Breakfast) on tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g150793-d154288-r3224767-Villa_Bella_Bed_and_Breakfast_Inn-Puerto_Vallarta_Pacific_Coast.html They're only open on the weekends and only serve beef tacos and quesadillas. The tacos are addicting! We stuffed ourselves for only $14. I think they're really famous because the place was packed! IP: Logged |

We also got back from PV and can confirm Lynda's Barcelonas Topas good recommendation -good food-goodview although it is broken upby a radio tower. Quite the hike to get to the restaurant, but worht it. We also went to Kikis in a town northwest of Marina Vallarta and it was good, but the traffic noise(we sat right by the wall closest to the road) was very load - not sure I would go back.
There are several restaurants by the marina in nice settings but they are a little pricier - our favorite was Zhuma's. Hope this helps Sonny IP: Logged |

My favorite is on the north side of town and is a reasonably priced family run resturant. Great food, good prices. It is Alvarados Seafood and it is at Peru and Pamama streets on the water side of the street. For a fancy night out we loved the Vista Grill which is on the south side of town and has a fabulous view. Pricy but yummy. Upscale atmosphere. We also like the sports bars - No Name Cafe is our favorite for BBQ and pizza. It is run by an American. It is a nice break from the usual Mexican fare and they often have great breakfast specials and Happy hour on Sunday during the games. They have many TVs and will put your home team on if they can. We also liked the sport bar in the south end but I can't recall the name - maybe El Torito? Great BBQ there too and good cold shrimp. Monday night football and soccer are big in this bar as well as baseball. ------------------ Cyndi IP: Logged |

Thanks to all who sent suggestions. I passed the information on to my friend who spent spring break in PV last week. She returned to work today smiling. She took the information from all of you and used it to plan their week. They were able to fit in many of your suggestions and had a wonderful time. Thanks!
