Chichen Itza should be at the top of any list.IP: Logged |

I second the vote for Chitzen Itza. My family did the tour through Brant. We also added the horseback ride option. This was amazing because we saw ruins not yet open to the public that are still being excavated. The only negative with this add-on is that we missed part of the tour of the main ruins.I would also vote for going to Cozumel for the day. We took the bus down, but ended up hiring the driver that had taken us from the airport to the hotel to pick us up in Cozumel. He had given us his business card and offered to show us everything from the best place to get coffee in Cancun to driving us wherever we wanted to go. We went snorkeling and did a little shopping on the island before returning to Playa de Carmen where Luis, our driver, picked us up at Senior Frogs. Good luck! Laura IP: Logged |

I recommend the Chichen Itza ruins and Xcaret eco-park if you can only do two tours. snorkling, underground rivers and a excellent night show are only a couple of the things you can do and see at XCaret.Cozumel is great if your a diver but I didn't find the snorkling any better than whats available on the much closer Island of Isla Mujeres. The ferry to Isla Mujeres leaves from the Hotel zone and has you to the Island in about 40 mins. Differnt tours and options are offered from just roundtrip ferry transport for about $15 or full tours on a catamaran including lunch and snorkleing for under $50 per person. If your staying In Cancun this is a easy way to visit a Island and snorkle and I would add this as a third tour option to consider. The Jungle Tour available from many location in the Cancun Hotel zone is another great tour. You pilot your own waverunner type boat or a mini speed boat thru the lagoon and out into the reef area infront of the Club med where you snorkle. This tour lasts only a few hours and cost around $40 per person.
COZ from Cancun requires atleast a 45 min bus trip then you have to wait for and take the 45 min+ ferry ride over to Cozumel. you do the same on the way back and It makes for a long day. On the plus side you get to visit the Playa Del Carmen area as well but I would save this tour for second visit to the area unless your a diver and then it would be number one.

Can anyone who has been to both x-carat and xel-ha give their opinions on which they would recommend? I have read that x-carat can be expensive by the time you pay for food and other add ons while xel-ha is all inclusive (if you choose that option). We have been to xel ha but not x-carat. We really enjoyed the snorkeling at xel-ha and may go back when we visit cancun again in 3 weeks. We have guests coming with us and are trying not to go too expensively. Any opinions?thanks, Boggie IP: Logged |

I also really Like Xel-Ha and have gone there on the all-inclusive package 3 times. I enjoy the Snorkling there and tubbing down the River and find it great value. Problem is there is not much for people who don't like to be in the water to do. Xcaret has lots of thing to do in and out of water and has something for everyone as well as the excellent night show. Sea turtle and butterfly Farm to explore,Mexican Rodeo type show,Night show, underground rivers, snorkling and swimming beach.IP: Logged |

Consider the time of year you are going. Do you mention this anywhere?) In summer, Chitzen Itza will be extremely HOT and the long drive/day (3 hrs drive each way I recall?) can make it a miserable, however impressive, day. In peak summer I think XCaret would be more enjoyable combined with a 2nd tour of maybe the Tulum/XelHa combo instead of the all day C.I. Yes, XCaret can get quite expensive, just about as expensive as spending the day in Disney World if you've ever done that. Worth it, thou if you get there early, leave late. Snorkel/jet ski tour is fun. If you can only do 2 thou, this would not be at the top of the list as you can snorkel at so many other destinations - XCaret and Mayan ruins experiences are more indicative of and unique to this region. No matter what, you will enjoy! IP: Logged |

We're don't typically go back to the same place twice. But we will be returning to Xcaret in November. The park is terrific. DickIP: Logged |
