I don't think there would be any difference between penthouses BUT looking at the villa number you provided this is not a Penthouse. G5418 is a 4th floor unit.
As you can see from the resort map G5818 is a penthouse (maybe you just typed the # incorrectly?) http://mexicondo.com/map_RS.gif

We stayed in G5418 in 2002. It is a great unit on the 4th floor with fabulous views of the pool and ocean. Personally I prefer the 4th or 5th floor.

I agree, the Mexicondo map does make it look like G5418 is the top floor.

Enjoy your stay. We love the Royal Sands and will be back for a week in October.

Jbuzzy-I'll be there in June and I feel your pain.

Im counting down the days and plotting my celeberation for the two days prior to departure. We are starting our vacation on Thursday night in the city . Everyone one will be packed. Friday night will be another night out on the town. Our flight leaves at 6 am so we will be in the airport at 3AM. Paryting before 2 so we can be good enough to get through security.

Lol, I know we sound like mad people but it's been a long time coming and planning and we just can not wait !!

Its easy to make that mistake if your not familer with the Royal resorts maps.
If you look close you will see the map shows the outline for each 2-bedroom villa. Inside this outline is all the specific unit numbers.
G is the building number, The second number Is always 5 at the Sands, The third number is the floor.

Ok, I see. I figured that since the second unit and my first unit were on the same level then they were both penthouses. Now even though it is not a penthouse, I was still under the impression that it was a high unit because of how it is situated on the map. However, by just looking at the map I forgot that the Royals does have 8 floors. I don't understand why they layed it out to seem as if units 1-4 are separated from units 5-8 on the map. Maybe it was out of convenience for the map's sake. That can be very confusing. A Royal is still a Royal by any means andmost likely we will all be gathering in one villa when we aren't sleeping.

My only dilemma is breaking the news. I've already figured that I'll tell them about the villa leading up to the week that we have to go. There was tension about two months ago about who was going to be where, believe it or not. Those who were in the penthouse had agreed to pay more to cover it. When I figured we had two penthousess I divided the cost of both villas by everyone. So we'd all be paying extra for a penthouse villa.
Anyhow everyone was happy now that we had to penthouses. Now since we all are paying the same price all together we will be ... they will be tossing coins on who goes where.
Sounds petty, right?
Hence why I say "They"

I seriously hope they will just say "wherever my head falls is where I will sleep", and call it a day.
