I have received a bonus week from SFX and need recommendations on which Mayan to stay at. I understand that staying at one gives you access to all, and both are highly rated, but one of them has to offer more than the other, whether it be better dining, beaches, locations, more kids, etc. Man that was a long sentence. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I own at the Grand Mayan and visited the Royal Mayan in Sep with an AC from II. Without a doubt, the accomodations at the Grand Mayan are superior to the Royal Mayan. However, I prefer the location of the Royal Mayan and the beach is better. You will have a great time no matter which you choose. Ben

Last June we stayed for one week at the Grand Mayan followed by one week at the Royal Mayan. THe room at the Grand Mayan was very nice and the pool was really nice but the pool was literally hot in June. They did not seem to circulate cold water into the pool to keep it cool and it is fairly shallow throughout.

We preferred the Royal Mayan for the location, the beach, the resturants, the activies, the staff, and the great view. We really didn't spend all that much time in the room and it was very nice, just smaller and not as new as the Grand Mayan.

I thought the Royal Mayan is a separate and distinct place in Cancun that is part of the "Royals." Does the OP mean Grand Mayan vs. Mayan Palace?

Staying at the Royal Mayan definitely would NOT get you access to the 'other' Mayans. Different company.

Grand Mayan is not part of the Royals. Grand Mayan is with the Mayan Palace group; Royal Mayan is with the Royals. Two separate companies, not at all related to each other. There are several Royal resorts in Cancun and 1 Grand Mayan/Mayan Palace resort south of Cancun.
